Vanity Fair has posted pictures of the photo shoot with the gorgeous Shakira. The accompanying article explains that the reporter found her howl from Shewolf oddly alluring by the end of their time with her.

Continuing with the real bodies theme, ESPN Magazine is going to publish pictures of athletes in the buff. BET is especially excited since the magazine will feature pictures of several high profile African-American athletes including Serena William’s cover picture.

Glamour.com asks “How do you apply your makeup?” Using a brush to apply liquid foundation makes a world of difference. We already knew this since some of us at PW Style aren’t especially artistic yet yearn to be creative. The brushes help with this.

Courtesy of InStyle.com - This bag is called Big Buddha

Want cheap accessories? InStyle has you covered, with their list of handbags, scarves & sunglasses under 100 bucks. Nice.

Lastly, Stylecaster is excited for Sloane and Eric from Entourage to tie the knot. They’ve gone ahead and picked out what Sloane should wear for her wedding.

So a friend of mine just got a new tattoo, and I am now in love with her artist, Amanda Wachob of New York’s Dare Devil Tattoo.
God, isn’t that just SICK? I’ve always thought that the urge to get another tattoo decreases by inverse squares as time elapses since your last one; I haven’t particularly felt the itch to get another tattoo since I was like 19, but man, the compulsion is back. These are just so unlike any others I’ve seen.

You can apparently just give the lady a general area and say “Go to town!”, which is also kind of appealing in a kind of terrifying way.

I bought a new pair of running shoes in March before a 5k, and I was running an average of 20 miles a week back then for a few months… so I’m due for a new pair.

To ease my nerves on this ridiculous feat, here are photos of new running shoes I want/need. That is all.

I feel like they are under used past a certain point, except from creepy guys. It’s nice to know someone with no ill intentions like momma dukes just wants to emoticon it up.

Lastly, e-mails from crazy people might become the new fmylife.com or texts from last night. Check it out.

Unless you live under a rock with central air, you’re probably aware that it’s effing hot outside and have experienced the sexy natural phenomena that is back sweat (at least twice) in the last 48 hours. Fortunately, I’m a part of a growing demographic of ladies in this fine city that carries deodorant in their purse. While it technically doesn’t cool my body down, it helps me not smell like Sansom Street on trash day… and that’s a good thing.. right?

I’m going to take a second to plug that idea to all of our readers…. I trust you all to do the right thing.

Okay; that second is over– so now, onto a question! My question to you, darling PWstyle readers, is somehow inspired by my turkey bacon and egg sandwich aka my breakfast.

I’ve been a Center City kid for almost six years, and my weekday cup of daily coffee always comes from Jean’s Cafe on the corner of Walnut and Juniper Street.

Today I put in my regular order and set my bag on the counter to get my wallet out. As I was pawing through my purse, Jean asked “skim milk in your coffee, not cream, right?”. I nodded, and even though I had a half-full water bottle in my bag, it was at that moment that I noticed I was the only person not purchasing some cold bottled drink. I looked down the counter and it dawned on me at that moment that I’m really married to my morning coffee/tea.

Perhaps it’s all me– but it seemed at that moment the other clerk noticed, too. She laughed and commented I was the last person in Center City that drinks coffee at high noon when it’s 93 degrees and humid.

Hm, well– maybe that’s true. While waiting for the 42, I sipped my hot coffee in the shade and considered this for the first time. Gatorade, diet Coke, orange juice, Figi water, whatever— I really was the only person not getting something cold. I realized I even pass a Starbuck’s and a Dunkin’ Donuts on the way to Jean’s, but iced coffee is rarely on my mind or in my vocabulary.

Is this weird? Would it be weirder if I had a strong affection for iced coffee in December? Is it dangerous to be drinking coffee in the heat? Am I asking to feel sick? Oddly enough, I picked up a copy of a day old paper and a Metro on my seat on the bus and bam! on the cover of the Metro was a headline “Lattes, even on the hottest days” with a girl in her early 20’s reading a book and drinking a latte (much like myself) in the park.

So, does anyone else do this besides me and the chick on the cover of the Metro? Are we a weirdo dying breed? Stubborn? Set in habit? Do you do anything that should seemingly be dictated by the weather but… don’t? I’ll be asking the troops on Twitter about this soon enough, but I’d like to hear your opinions. Should I reform?! Comment away.

Much to my dismay, I’m not a natural redhead.

I found my “boring” long brown hair devastating as a pre-teen. It frizzed and flopped with the weather, and though the brown hue suited my pale olive skin, I was anxious for something different. Growing up in a shore town, most of my friends had a strong affection for blonde Barbie types… but it did nothing for me; The straw and ash coloring didn’t suit my Mediterranean roots and I suddenly found myself interested in the original recessive trait: red hair.

I’ve always found red hair to be glamorous and unique. Fall is my favorite season, and beautiful red locks remind me of the rich colors of the foliage: crimson, apple, cherry, mahogany, ginger, maple, brick, strawberry… I traded my long brown hair for a rich auburn bob and haven’t looked back.

Red hair suddenly seems to be all the rage this season, shown on the runway and dominating photo shoots in popular women’s magazines.. so, as a dedicated bottle-redhead, here is a quick photo tribute to my favorite redheaded ladies, (natural gingers or not) past and present!:

According to my painfully pink, sore, soon-to-be “tan” lines, I am still wearing a bikini. The catch? I haven’t been to the beach in well over 48 hours. As a shore native, I had enough common sense to apply some sunblock before I settled down on the sand… but modern UV blocking lotion and my Mediterranean roots were no match for my accidental 2-hour nap on a beach mat.

Most of us have had sunburn before. For those who have not experienced the crimson glow (like my Vietnamese best friend who coincidentally only gets the best tan in the world every time we go to the beach), consider yourself LUCKY. Remember: the short-term effect of sunburn is the pain, but it’s the long term effects that ultimately will do you in (re: skin cancer). Do yourself a favor– invest in some sunblock!

I read some tips on e-how and firstaid.com:

Get out of the sun. Staying in the sun after the burn is present will make it worse.

Look for blisters. Blistering means the skin is completely damaged and complications are likely. If the area with blisters is bigger than one entire arm or the whole abdomen, seek medical attention by calling 911 or visiting the emergency department.

Take a cool shower or bath to soothe the pain.

Apply aloe or another cooling agent. Whatever you use – DO NOT APPLY BUTTER OR OIL TO ANY BURN!

Over the counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be used for the pain of a sunburn. If stronger pain relief is needed, contact a physician or go to the emergency department.

I also asked for some advice in the Tweesphere:

Thanks guys!: @JustinAugust I have invested in some Lubiderm Intensive Care already, thank you. @LexieLerro, I love the cold bath idea. Be sure to follow @PWstyle on Twitter.com!

In other news, I personally don’t recommend exercising until your sunburn has turned at least 1/2 tan. Why? Well, I ran up a flight of stairs and I couldn’t tell which “burn” was which. The process of stretching was ridiculous, and I think the stinging sensation up and down my legs prevented me from warming up properly. Regardless, I ran 2 miles at the banks in one of my faster times yesterday…. because, well, Hell hath no fury like a sunburnt chick in a sports bra.

When I took up running last year, I ran myself right into a closet conundrum: the only things I owned lightweight enough for outdoor cardio happened to be my ragged highschool gym clothes… you know, the same ones I wore when scrubbing my floors and dying my hair each month.

I was on intern’s wages; The impractical part of me thought the 76-dollar-before-tax matching running sets from City Sports were super cute… but the sensible part of me thought it was ridiculous– esp since I was already doing weird things to save money (like re-using ziploc bags), post-grad.

Here’s what I almost spent 76 (hard-earned-intern-pay) bucks on:

Then.. I decided I couldn’t spend 1/7th of my rent, in good conscience, on an outfit I ultimately sweat in.

My knight in shining armor? Old Navy Activewear. Old Navy’s line of activewear has proven itself totally invaluable to twenty-somethings who are trying to be fit on a dime, everywhere. They’re comfortable cuts, brightly colored, affordable and totally adorable. Fortunately for me, everything ranges from $8-19.50. I’ve had mine for a year this month, and they are still serving me well.

This equally cute mix-and-match set in blue from Old Navy is about 34 bucks. Win.

So, if you’re thinking about picking up the pace and exercising this summer, don’t feel like you need to run straight to the sport stores for new tanks– shop smart!: check your options. There is equally cute gear in familiar stores for half the price. Hope to see you on the trails!
