Green Aisle Grocery Opens Today
We’ve been remiss in mentioning that PW food critic Adam Erace and his brother have spent the last few months prepping for the opening of their new store, Green Aisle Grocery (1618 East Passyunk Ave.). We know you love supporting local businesses way more than biggie corporations, so we’ve got the deets.
The shop opens today at 12:30, so get thee to Passyunk Ave. to peep their extensive selection of locally produced treats.
The Erace boys have been leaking details about the shop’s products on Twitter—hummus from Zahav, barbecue sauce from Pub & Kitchen, Antoine Amrani chocolates and (our personal fave) popcorn from boardwalk icon Johnson’s—as well as linking some sweet shots of Green Aisle’s interior, which we took the liberty of borrowing to give all y’all a peek. (Thanks, Adam!)

Also: Swag alert! The first 50 customers who drop $20 at Green Aisle get these lovely, durable totes, which were designed by local (m)ad men (and women) at Red Tettemer.

Regular hours will be noon-8p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Shewolf
Vanity Fair has posted pictures of the photo shoot with the gorgeous Shakira. The accompanying article explains that the reporter found her howl from Shewolf oddly alluring by the end of their time with her.
Continuing with the real bodies theme, ESPN Magazine is going to publish pictures of athletes in the buff. BET is especially excited since the magazine will feature pictures of several high profile African-American athletes including Serena William’s cover picture.
Glamour.com asks “How do you apply your makeup?” Using a brush to apply liquid foundation makes a world of difference. We already knew this since some of us at PW Style aren’t especially artistic yet yearn to be creative. The brushes help with this.

Want cheap accessories? InStyle has you covered, with their list of handbags, scarves & sunglasses under 100 bucks. Nice.
Lastly, Stylecaster is excited for Sloane and Eric from Entourage to tie the knot. They’ve gone ahead and picked out what Sloane should wear for her wedding.
The Wrinkles Just Slip Off
If you love to shop and want to receive daily e-mails about sales from top designers, or hate stores and never want to step foot in one again, Current TV Tech reporter Sarah Lane has some suggestions.
The Ground Report discusses why it might be good to have oily skin after all. This article reminded me of my grandmother, who says that she doesn’t have wrinkles because her skin is so oily, and the wrinkles just slipped off.
There’s a blog that illustrates the New York edition of ‘missed connections’ as featured on Craig’s List. It’s pretty interesting. The New York Times is a fan too.
The Frisky highlights celebs with tattoos, Glamour helps a girl pick out a handbag that costs a small fortune, the New York Times gives a review of Milan’s fashion week, which isn’t as flashy as it once was, and NBC10 asks whether backless dresses are trashy or not.
3-day vintage warehouse sale
Nice! Sazz Vintage, storefront located at 38 N 3rd, is having a supercheap sale out of their Fishtown warehouse Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. There’s no changing rooms, though, so maybe wear a tank top and skirt if you can.
XOXO, Gossip Girl
Gossip Girl here. Your one and only source into the scandalous lives…
Advance news: I will be broke the minute I get anywhere near a Target. Yesterday, Anna Sui’s new line of Gossip Girl inspired clothes hit Target stores across the country. Both Emily G and Lauren have posted about this line, but they both failed to mention that the Blair Waldorf inspired dresses alone are enough to make you want to freeze your credit card in a block of ice until October 17th. The blouses and bottoms are cute, but it’s the dresses that will make my wallet devastated and barren: They’re range from casual to cocktail, and I want all of them!
Starting today, you can get trendy Ana Sui fashions at select Target stores or online at Target.com, but you’ll have to hurry. The cheap-chic collection, (inspired by, and timed to coincide, with the third season debut of Gossip Girls), is available only through Oct.17. Ranging in price from $19.99 to $149.99, the line — with its Bohemian, urban edge –includes sweaters, blouses, dresses, cropped pants and mini-skirts.

We all know Blair is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but hot DAMN she can dress for any occasion… and Anna nailed it. Here are a few grabs of some Blair inspired favs (screen shots from NYmag and Nylon).
Martes. Tuesday. Mardi. Dienstag.
I really like most of the posts that The Frisky sent in it’s newsletter yesterday, except for this one. It’s about dorm room cooking, and being able to ultilize your coffee pot to cook chicken? Gross. At Least whoever wrote about this nastiness agrees with me.
The posts that I heart from The Frisky are as follows…How to dress like Brad Goreski from The Rachel Zoe Project. I just wish they did a post on Taylor Jacobson and how she dresses. I guess it’s pretty easy to figure out – skinny jeans, flannel shirts lots of hair bleach, black nail polish and ray bans, but I’d like a post anyway.
Another post from The Frisky spreads the word that Jessica Simpson is planning on releasing a line of bras that cater to large breasted women. I’m all for cute bras in big sizes, but it’s just funny that Jessica ultimately designs for herself. Most of her shoes have major heels on them, because she’s a shawty.
Yet another post from The Frisky clues you in as far as postage stamps in France. They smell like chocolate! Mmm. There’s also another post on Shower Curtains. One even includes Horror Movie Bloody hands. Charming.
Every season, J. Crew’s creative director Jenna always picks out her faves that J. Crew carries. I tend to agree with Jenna - she picks out nice things. First there are these cute t-strap heels as well as this gorgeous ring.
Lastly, I have developed a recent love for Bloomingdales. I’ve always been smitten with the high end anchor store, but recently they’ve got me head over heels. Their customer service is excellent. They called my mom the other day to make sure that she liked the makeup that she purchased. This is after she recieved a hand written thank you from a manager, and I returned shoes that were all kinds of messed up. I might not be able to pick up this season’s Chanel bag, but I’m definatey stopping by for my more practical needs.
Piggie Toes
Sunday’s New York Times had an article about running shoes called FiveFingers from a company called Vibram. These shoes are part of somewhat of a movement in the running shoe world. These shoes more closely resemble socks than thick soled running shoes. Quite the departure from New Balances. The thought is that it’s better to run as close to barefoot as possible. I’m not so sure I agree. I’ve tried to run on the treadmill barefoot and it hasn’t ever felt right. These socky looking shoes are pretty cool looking though.
The New York Times also has a video up from Bill Cunningham, who has a voice that I love. In this video, Cunningham talks about the women he’s observed walking around NYC in what seem to be evening dresses. I think they’re just longer sundresses, but I love Bill’s take on things.
At the Daytime Emmys there was an Oscar on the carpet. There was also an Elmo and a Big Bird! Sure, there were some talkshow hosts and actresses as well, but the fact that Sesame Street was there and on the red carpet is something that I find highly entertaining.
Somehow I wasn’t aware of Lilliana Vazquez and the fact that she’s everywhere and doesn’t sleep until now. Not only does she run a blog called CheapChicas.com – which helps you wear cute clothes and accessories without breaking the bank, but she also wrote every single style article on NBC10.com that perked my interest. Her write ups include pieces on Ankle boots, and gorgeous jewelery including great baubles and even necklaces that will help you remember important dates.
Right to Bare Arms
I saw Inglourious Basterds this past weekend, and Quentin Tarantino did not disapoint. Harpers Bazaar has pictures up of the premier.
Harpers also says that toned arms are the new face. It just might be true. Many women are currently seeking Michelle Obama arms, and many celebs show off their guns.
Another slideshow that Harpers has up is supermodels without makeup. I love slideshows like this. I guess I think it’s nice to know that even though they are supermodels, they’re real people. When I met Iman and I realized that she had fine lines around her eyes and not a limp botox face, I found it so refreshing.
I know Newscasters wear some corny outfits sometimes, but if you ever wanted to dress like one, you can! CNN has a video describing it, but the website is called TV News Closet.
Marie Claire has slideshows of the best premium outlet malls in America, as well as trends in Italy. I have a soft spot for designs from the boot. It looks like these pictures were taken in Italy, so it’s worth browsing for the backdrops alone.
Lastly, if you want to dress like Kelly Ripa, she clues you in on what she wears on the show.
Monday Links
Seventeen takes a look at celeb hairstyles and wants your input. Does Heidi Montag need to get rid of her extensions? Is Leighton Meester’s sun-kissed share cute or lame?
Glamour also looks to celebs, featuring slideshow of do’s and don’ts.
InStyle has up a 360 degree view of the Bass/van der Woodsen apartment fom Gossip Girl which is pretty cool. The only thing is that when you look at the ceiling and it’s all televisions style lighting. I wish it were a real apartment, even though it’s next to impossible that I’d live somewhere like that.
InStyle also has a section of their site devoted to shopping. All the details on anything from bands, purses, jewelery, sunglasses and cardigans. I don’t know how I didn’t know about this page, but now its one of my new faves.
Lastly, Express has the cutest new line of ballet flats. Perfect for those times when flip flops won’t cut it. I love to wear my Havaianas, Sanuks, or Reefs everywhere, but sometimes, you have to cover up those toes and be serious. These flats are perfect for those times.
TWITTERPOLL: Back to school
I’m going to turn 23 in two weeks (I know, I’m a baby). I’ve been out of my undergrad for two years… and though I’m sure a master’s program is in my future (in a few years), I’m suddenly nostalgic with every ‘back to school‘ ad that has hit me in the face in this fine city. After weeding through my mail with the ‘‘too cool for school!” sales sending me on sensory overload, I decided to ask the troops on twitter what their fav back to school item was growing up:
(and she posted this sweet link to trapper keeper goodness)
………
and for the record, calculator watches always count.
