What To Do This Weekend

Hey kids– it’s almost 5pm, so you can stop pretending to work in Excel and begin planning your weekend. Happy Friday from the girls at PWstyle.

JCTrunkPostcard

//Jeffrey Campbell Trunk Show at J.Karma One of our fav Olde City boutiques, J.Karma is always up to something. We read on their new blog that they were paid a visit by Reese Witherspoon when she was filming in town. When they aren’t getting surprise drop-in’s from A-listers, J.Karma appears to be planning trunk shows.

“J. Karma is hosting a trunk show by one of the most sought after shoe designers Jeffery Campbell. A design representative will be on hand to show the new fall line, present an exclusive limited edition design by Jeffrey Campbell and give a sneak peek at the Spring 2010 line..”

Bubbly, wine & cheese will be served. Event is from 6-9pm.

//SoReFa Fashion Show @ North Bowl As we all know, Design Philadelphia is well under way and think it’s really cool that Arcadia Boutique is holding the 3rd annual SoReFa (Socially Responsible Fashion) Fashion Show on Sunday (10/11) at North Bowl.

This is a free event that exposes local designers and artists as well as eco-friendly fashion.  There will be raffles and food after at Arcadia Boutique! The party starts at 4pm at North Bowl (909 N 2nd St.) More info is available at SoReFa and ArcadiaBoutique.

What To Do This Weekend

TONIGHT: Smak Parlour’s Pink Birthday Bash
Smak Parlour owners Abby Kessler and Katie Loftus see the world through rose colored glasses. Or at least that’s how seems. The gal pals are such big fans of the color pink, they not only splashed the walls of their Old City boutique with the hue, they also use it to theme their annual birthday celebration. This year’s soiree—the fourth—offers a 20% discount on selected merchandise and plenty of pink-frosted cupcakes and cocktails. And even if pink isn’t your fave, stop by to peep Kessler and Loftus’ new spring line, which includes dresses, tanks and Ts. 6pm.

TOMORROW: Arcadia Denim Brunch
A highlight of the spring fashion season in Philly is eco-friendly boutique Arcadia’s biannual denim brunch. Stop by and receive 25% off all denim purchases—including already reduced items!—while sipping on mangosas and munching on complimentary snacks. There will also be a trunk show featuring merchandise from Ivy Glass. And some words of wisdom to all you vertically challenged shoppers: You can get your jeans hemmed on the spot and for FREE. Noon.

Trunk Show at Art Star
Sure, we’ve already pimped Art Star today, but it’d be shameful to overlook this weekend’s trunk sale. The event features jewelry and wares from Monika Krol. Local fashion designer Nicole Rae Styer will also be on

hand. Styer is known for tricking out her designs with fabric corsages, beads and other small items. She’ll be embellishing on-site on Saturday. Bring your own skirt or shirt and she’ll make it original for just $25. There’ll also be mimosas and munchies courtesy of NoLib’s Soy Cafe, located just across the street from Art Star. Noon.

Kanye West Sneaker Launch at VILLA
Kanye’s new sneaker—amusingly called the Nike Air Yeezy—is being sold exclusively in our area at VILLA (formerly known as Sneaker Villa). The Air Yeezys will be available in three color patterns, each to be released a month apart. The Zen Grey and Light Charcoal painted “Yeezy” will be released this Saturday, while the Black on Black will be in stores in May and the Net/Net (beige) combo in June. Kanye’s kicks will cost $300, which is pretty hefty in our current economic climate. But, hey, we ain’t sayin’ he’s a gold digger.

What To Do Tonight: Baseball or Chocolate? The Eternal Question

If You Believe There’s No Crying In Baseball

Liza Goncalves and Michelle D’Avella, owners of Vintage Blue, a line of T-shirts inspired by the All-American Girls Baseball League (see: A League of Their Own), will be hanging out at Mikey’s American Grill and Sports Bar in University City between 5pm and 9pm tonight. They’ll be selling the latest Vintage Blue T-shirts (we dig this one) as well as offering designer jeans—including Joe’s, Citizens, James and People Liberation—for $50.

If You’re Craving Something Sweet

Eco-friendly boutique Arcadia hosts a wine and chocolate tasting tonight starting at 6pm. In addition to being able to indulge in sweet treats, guests can peruse the shop’s latest art opening which features the  photography of Alex Trejo as well as a trunk show featuring jewelry by Birdqueen Designs (fingers crossed she’ll bring along some of her adorable Yellow Owl collection). Anyone who  makes a purchase will be entered into a raffle. It’s a little pricey, but we’ve got our eye on this brown dress by Zula Studio.
