Design*Sponge Philly guide
Kevin Derrick, of DesignPhiladelphia and Bahdeebahdu, is pretty on-the-nose with the design guide of Philadelphia he did for big blog Design*Sponge. I like so many things about this guide:
1. It was clearly done by someone who lives here, as opposed to the somewhat over-obvious guides people from New York tend to do of Philly
2. I agree with pretty much everything on there
3. I also like the accompanying illustration by Julia Rothman, which, yes, includes cheesesteaks, the Liberty Bell and Rocky, but makes them sit in the Cliche Corner
4. That, in an increasingly tasteless world of unstoppable self-promotion, Kevin did not include Bahdeebahdu in the guide even though it’s totally awesome and should be in there. Way to keep it classy!
Anyway, check the guide out, we give this our full approval.
DesignPhiladelphia house tour
Kevin of DesignPhiladelphia (also of Bahdeebahdu, as you may be able to tell from the neato shipwreck chandelier) has a house tour of his place near Rittenhouse up on Apartment Therapy… quite pink, quite cute!
Rescheduled Philagrafika opening and fashion show
Hey, what with the snow (and because I used to live in Ohio, I refuse to tack -pocalypse or -mageddon on behind there, because not even) last week, the opening reception for the PennDesign alumni Philagrafika installation at Bahdeebahdu gallery in northern Northern Liberties was rescheduled for this Thursday (though the installation’s been up since the beginning of the month). There’s a fashion show by Topstich Boutique and Of Corset Fits.
Even on non-Philagrafika days Bahdeebahdu gallery houses an assortment of amazing stuff, like these amazing lighting-type sculpture installations by Warren Muller (as I recall, Topstitch has one involving trombones) and similarly legit furniture/interior design stuff by partner RJ Thornburg.
So if you hibernated all last week, here’s your second chance.
Opening reception and fashion show: Thursday, February 18, 6-9pm. 1522 N American St.
