Updated: Summer Sale Roundup

third_street_habit_saleHoly crappers! There’s so many Fourth of July and mid-season sales going on that you’d be stupid not to go shopping this weekend. As promised, I’ve added several more to the earlier list.

So here’s the complete motherload:

Third Street Habit: Right now, the Old City boutique is making room for new inventory, marking down prices on a plethora of amazing designer dresses, tops, denim, shoes and accessories. This includes Isabel Marant’s entire Etoile collection, which has been marked way, way down. Stop by this Friday or Saturday and you’ll also score an extra 10 percent off all sale merch. (153 N. 3rd St.)

Zara’s: Both in stores and online, you’ll find prices slashed on all the hottest summer trends (florals, neon, high-low hems and lace) as well as dresses, blouses and blazers.

Three Sirens Boutique: Take 15-30 percent off store wide June 29-July 4. This Saturday and Sunday (12-4 p.m.), you’ll also have a chance to get first dibs on some cute summer duds as they’ll be adding even more goodies to their clearance section.

Macy’s: Although too expansive to list each and every deal, Macy’s annual Fourth of July Sale does entail extra savings on select swimwear (50 percent), home goods (10 percent) and shoes (20-50 percent). Shop online and receive an extra 15 percent off your purchase and free shipping as well as an exclusive 25 percent off clearance. Ends: June 30.

Forever 21: Buy a select sale item and receive a second sale item for free. We’re talking some pretty cute summer dresses for less than $15. This sweet-ass deal ends Sunday.

Express: For their end of season sale, the retailer not only has select fashions for up to 70 percent off, but right now, they’re taking an extra 30 percent off those already reduced clearance items.south_moon_under_summer_sale

Vamp Boutique: Now through Sunday, buy any two dresses and you’ll receive 25 percent off your entire purchase storewide. And considering the Manayunk boutique’s selection super trendy and feminine summer dresses, finding two to your likely shouldn’t be too hard. (4231 Main St.)

West Elm: Besides some rather impressive storewide markdowns, now through Monday, take up to 40 percent off outdoor furniture and 15 percent off mirrors and wall décor.

Old Navy: Now through Sunday, prices will be slashed on hundreds of summer styles both online and in stores, including their signature “Flag Tees,” which start at just $4. Online you can also save an additional 15 percent off your purchase (promo code: ONSAVEBIG).

BUS STOP Boutique: For their “SUMMER Love SALE,” the South Philly boutique will be offering customers 20 percent off summer sandals and shoes now through July 3.

Bath & Body Works Semi Annual Sale: 75 percent off select items. This includes $3 soaps and sanitizers, $2 select home fragrance and up to 50 percent off select candles, gift sets and seasonal clearance. Lotions and shower gels from their “Signature Collection” are also ranging anywhere from $2.75-$4.

H&M: Select tanks, tees, skirts, dresses and shorts are now up to 75 percent off.

South Moon Under: For their biggest sale of the year, all summer items are now 50 percent off both in stores and online. There’s even a large selection of summer fashions, accessories, housewares and gift items now 70 percent off.

Lacoste Semi-Annual Sale: Get up to 50 percent off select styles and free shipping.

Philly Fashion Week by FBH Celebrates its 7th Season….

Philly Fashion Week

After my New York Fashion Week struggle, I thought I was cursed from the fashion world.  Fortunately, Philly Fashion Week by FBH was an opportunity to redeem myself.  The event was divided into two main days, Ready to Wear fashion on Friday, February 24th, and Couture on Saturday, February 25th.

In the past, I’ve attended the Philly Fashion Week events, and I felt it could have been organized much better.  However, the show went very smoothly this year for me.  The organizers let the press in promptly, but attendees were forced to wait in a hot waiting room for about 45 minutes before the doors to the runway room opened.  The organizers need to specify that doors open at 7, but the show doesn’t start until 8-8:15.  In New York Fashion Week, if the show says it starts at 6 p.m., and it starts at 6 p.m. sharp.

Once the show started, it was apparent that Philadelphia is home to a wide array of fashion opinions.   There were lines that appealed to an urban audience, like Street Mode, and others, like Banana Republic’s “A Weekend at the Hamptons” that appealed to clean cut, preppy fashionistas.

The organizers tweeted each designer that walked down the runway for the “Ready to Wear” show, so it was easy to figure out who was on the runway.  Unfortunately, they didn’t do the same on the couture day, so if any designers names are butchered, I apologize. Click the jump for the highs and lows of the show!

Black Friday and Cyber Monday Online Shopping Deals

It’s 5 a.m. outside Macy’s. Hundreds of soccer moms and their teenage daughters pour out of their minivans, coffee in one hand, credit card in the other, ready to curb stomp a hoe if she even thinks about taking the last ceramic angel figurine.

5:45 a.m. hits. They fold up their fishing chairs, do 50 push-ups and give their daughters a pep talk.

By 6 a.m., hot breath and squished noses press against the glass doors to the entrance as sales associates shit their pants in preparation.

Black Friday has become the premier sport for materialists and fashionistas across the nation, and, yes, people have died. It’s like the running of the bulls in heels. But if this isn’t quite your cup of tea, or you’d rather celebrate Black Out Friday, maybe Cyber Monday is better for you. But in the grand tradition of American holidays, it’s not just one day, but an entire week. So, while you’re in front of your computer drooling over the ceramic angels, keep reading for the best online shopping deals through the weekend.

PFW: Cocktail Chic Event and Runway Show

On Wednesday night, while much of the city was over at Phashion Phest, another well-dressed crowded descended upon the Kimmel Center on Broad Street for Philly Fashion Week’s Cocktail Chic 5th Anniversary Celebration and Runway Show.  The atmosphere was kind of like a networking mixer, as most of the crowd was of the creative type and involved in the industry in some way themselves.

A look from Strange Fruit by Kristin Haskins-Simms

The runway show had three participants: Banana Republic, who has a new ‘Mad Men’ themed collection currently in stores and Philly based designers, Strange Fruit by Kristin Haskins-Simms and Melody Thomas.

The clothes were a nice mix of styles and influences from Strange Fruit’s more deconstructed aesthetic to BR’s workwear approach and Melody Thomas’ line that looked perfect for a one Michelle Obama or your typical lady-who-lunches.  And who knows, with the talent behind both hometown girls, they may just end up on the First Lady herself.

Things that make me go MMMM: Stylist Challenge Edition

BizCas

Last weekend I was posed with a challenge from my best friend “B.” She wanted help purchasing the pieces necessary for the business casual wardrobe she’d be expected to have for her new job. (The job she started today!) If there’s one thing that makes me go MMM, it’s a fashion challenge and the opportunity to have my very own real life Barbie Doll!

The Shopping Stipulations:

-Keep it as cost-effective as possible (definitely under $500).

-Help her to “not look like a college business student giving a presentation to the class.” AKA no bootleg black pants and button down shirts!

-Help her to put together a wardrobe that is both classy and sassy

and the real challenge—-

-Collect all needed clothing items in a single afternoon of shopping!

And so on Saturday B and I hopped on our bikes and set out to conquer the world of business casual and make it LOOK GOOD!

After the jump check out the entire collection I put together for B, see if we made it in under budget and nab a few of my shopping/styling tips. (And as always, sorry for the lame iPhone pictures!)
