Orange and blue, red and white
I was cruising my endless RSS backup and happened across this interesting post from the Doorman at Clublife about the pros and cons of the new Mets Citi stadium as opposed to Shea. On the con side:
Strange attire: This is kind of a random one, but why are the ushers and ticket takers at Citi Field wearing jackets in the Philadelphia Phillies’ colors? This is a rather curious touch, especially when the Mets are currently engaged in a hostile rivalry with the Phillies. I hope they rethink this.
Huh! So in case you aren’t a baseball person, the Mets colors look like this:
That is to say, orange and blue. Definitely orange, not red. Phillies colors look more like this, in case you were not a baseball person and also in a coma:
I went searching around flickr for somebody who might have taken pictures of the ushers or ticket takers, and indeed someone had! Here’s the uniform at Shea Stadium:
And here’s the new uniform at Citi Stadium:
Why would they decide to switch to red? My guess would be that the staff members were hard to distinguish from the fans when they were wearing the same colors, but it’s still kind of funny.
P.S. I don’t really give a damn about the Mets-Phillies rivalry, so insert your own “they recognized that red and white were the awesomest colors around!!!!” hypotheses here.
P.P.S. and frankly I’ve had whitechocolatespaceegg by Liz Phair stuck in my head all day because that’s what I think of when I hear the three words “Orange and blue…” That should pretty much give you an idea of my sports cred.
Goin’ to the Chapel: RIVERSHARKS
Regular readers may recall that
PW associate editor Anastasia Kotsosavas is getting married (to a guy with an equally long, equally Greek last name). In eight months, she’s going to walk down the aisle come hell or high water (or even worse: rain). She’ll be chronicling all her crazy planning experiences here. Donations can be sent to the PW offices.
from our semi-regular Goin’ to the Chapel feature.
Well, Anastasia, I have scouted the best possible wedding location for you. And I did it all while scouting craigslist free stuff for another bookcase!

Cuz if there’s anything that says ‘forever,’ it’s a rivershark:
That is to say, a member of a genus which has been deemed ‘critically endangered,’ or not too likely to be in it for the long haul, so to speak.
They should have played up the baseball “diamond” aspect, on account of it bein’ a pune, or play on words.
