Well, Looks Like Phrequency’s Dead

This was kind of a surprise. And a sad one, really. Phrequency was, though spotty in its consistency, an often great voice in Philly media. They tasked a small army of photographers, writers and city-shakers to document a vibrant music and arts community here in our city. There’s so much going on that it’s tough for papers and blogs like ours to keep track of it all. We were often tipped off or reminded of things happening in Philly that we didn’t know about or had forgotten about.
There’s not really much in the ways of any kind of announcement on Phrequency itself. The cooler, hipper branch of Philly.com just sends you now to a philly.com link of blogs/things_to_do – a whack and ugly one, at that.
Of course, our friends over at Philebrity had something cunty to say about it. The title itself is a slap in the seemingly exctint blog’s face: “Philebrity Outlives Another Dumb Blog That Was Supposed To Be Like Philebrity.”
We’re in a shrinking media world and things die. It happens. But it’s surreal that a google of Phrequency yields NOTHING in the ways of archives.
Somewhere, mad contributors are grieving. We feel you.
‘Taste of Runway’ the Perfect Fit for Fashionista Foodies
Who said fashionistas don’t eat? Taste of Runway, one of the gems I’ve recently unearthed from the interwebs, is a blog that chicly blends a fashion fiend’s panache for pretty clothes and a gourmand’s gastronomic taste.
Since May 2011, the website has juxtaposed the runway’s memorable looks with culinary dishes that fairly resemble the high line designs. And with the slew of fashion shows that occurred in the past few weeks, it’s now a great time to possibly see your favorite threads reincarnated into food form.
But of course, food is not meant to just be looked at! You can even cook up the stylish cuisine, since there’s an accompanying recipe in every blog post. You may not be able to afford a peach ruffled Lanvin dress at the moment, but you can whip up some delish parma ham rolls. If you can’t wear it, eating it is just as good.
It’s understandable if you crave a PYT burger instead of a plate of greens when you’re looking at those slender models strutting down the catwalk. But from sweet fluo macarons to fun multicolored pasta, you will surely be the most fashionable cook in town with Taste of Runway’s help. Bon appetite!

TPC: Basics of Fashion Blogging Panel
Last Thursday night, people young and old alike filed into a conference room at the Apple store on Walnut Street to learn the ropes of one of the fastest growing hobbies: fashion blogging! Sitting on the panel were five local and NY-based bloggers that all approach the subject from different angles: Stephanie of A Matter of Life and Tech who played Moderator, Sammy of Sammy Davis Vintage, Andrea of Fly Girls, Tayyib of Two One Five and PWStyle’s very own Fajr of Stylish Thought.
Topics covered included how to get started with a blog and what platforms to use, developing your content, other considerations that you need to think about besides ‘fashion’, social media and the power that different plug-ins have to drive traffic, making your blog into a business and more.
If you weren’t able to make it over yourself here are some takeaway tips from the experts themselves:
- If you are clueless about how to navigate the blogosphere, link up with someone who is in the know.
- Before you worry about anything else, the quality of your content and message must come first.
-Maintain a social media presence (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr, etc) to not only drive traffic, but keep the conversation going.
-Check out useful apps and plug-ins like Google Keyword and other SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tricks to not only help with gaining readers, but to make your site more relevant to the hot topics of today. Just remember to stay true to your interests.
-If you want to make money, be willing to work hard to make your content the best it can be and approach businesses with a similar audience who you’d be interested in teaming up with in some way. Also, using the blog to demonstrate your expertise is perhaps the most valuable asset – speaking opportunities, guest judge invitations, spokesperson offers – are all just a few of the lucrative deals that could come out of it!

Got it? Good! Now get blogging!
