Chinese New Year Celebration
On Saturday from 6-9pm, Abakus Takeout is hosting a full-out bash to ring in the Chinese New Year. In addition to drinks, live music by DJ Wreckless and DJ Art, a special video production and 30 percent off their entire selection of apparel, the store will be releasing two extremely limited pieces, both of which are heavily inspired by the Chinese Zodiac sign “The Dragon” (the mightiest of all the signs, obviously).
Not familiar with Abakus Takeout? Neither was I until a few days ago. But there’s a good chance you’ve walked by the Chinatown shop before but just didn’t realize it. Because it looks like Chinese take-out restaurant! That’s right—shoes hang in the windows like fried ducks, a faux walk-in freezer serves as a dressing room and hats sit in wok pans. Even their price tags look like take-out slips. The store has been open a little over two years now and carries super trendy mens’ and womens’ streetwear, including varsity jackets, branded sweatshirts, graphic tees, hats and sneakers galore.
Greek & Life Grand Opening
Local college students rejoice! Opening pretty much smack-dab on Temple’s campus (2125 N. Broad St.), Greek & Life boutique will be specializing in Greek paraphernalia and custom lettering in addition to offering clothing for men and women from designers like Funktional, Life after Denim, Melanie Marie, and Aphilliyated. The opening party will be going down from 3-7pm on Saturday and will include music by Temple alum, DJ Omega, Wale’s DJ and host, EmEz of Hot 107.9. PW Style’s own Mark Longacre was lucky to get a sneak peek of the store and judging from the pics, the boutique is going to be a nice addition to Philly’s college community.
Joan Shepp’s Annual Basement Sale
Now through Saturday, Joan Shepp will be slashing prices on their designer fashions, including 50-70 percent off Givenchy, Dries Van Noten, Rick Owens and several others. Ok, so even with the applied discounts everything is still incredibly expensive. But for wardrobe staples, spending $200-$300 isn’t all that crazy. Plus, this is just a good excuse to go and check out the snazzy Center City shop if you never have.
