Updated: Summer Sale Roundup

third_street_habit_saleHoly crappers! There’s so many Fourth of July and mid-season sales going on that you’d be stupid not to go shopping this weekend. As promised, I’ve added several more to the earlier list.

So here’s the complete motherload:

Third Street Habit: Right now, the Old City boutique is making room for new inventory, marking down prices on a plethora of amazing designer dresses, tops, denim, shoes and accessories. This includes Isabel Marant’s entire Etoile collection, which has been marked way, way down. Stop by this Friday or Saturday and you’ll also score an extra 10 percent off all sale merch. (153 N. 3rd St.)

Zara’s: Both in stores and online, you’ll find prices slashed on all the hottest summer trends (florals, neon, high-low hems and lace) as well as dresses, blouses and blazers.

Three Sirens Boutique: Take 15-30 percent off store wide June 29-July 4. This Saturday and Sunday (12-4 p.m.), you’ll also have a chance to get first dibs on some cute summer duds as they’ll be adding even more goodies to their clearance section.

Macy’s: Although too expansive to list each and every deal, Macy’s annual Fourth of July Sale does entail extra savings on select swimwear (50 percent), home goods (10 percent) and shoes (20-50 percent). Shop online and receive an extra 15 percent off your purchase and free shipping as well as an exclusive 25 percent off clearance. Ends: June 30.

Don’t Let Trends Take Over Your Wardrobe!

Bright colors are the go-to trend of the season, but as with any sizzling hot fad, they burn out as fast as they blow up.  The colors are a lot of fun, but everyone’s wearing them, so it’s hard to stand out from the crowd.

I like to incorporate the latest trends with my own style to create a unique look, otherwise my friends and I would look like we’re straight out of a Gap catalog.  Trends are a great way to spice up your wardrobe from season to season, but they shouldn’t dictate fashion choices.

Earlier this season like every other season, J.Crew released their 9″ Stanton short in a wide array of colors, my favorite being their dusty berry.  Salmon shorts have been a J.Crew staple for eternity the past few spring/summer lines, but salmon and coral are hot in all stores this spring. The key is to wear them as the focal point of the outfit’s color palate.  I pair my colored shorts with a simple black deep v-neck and creme shaw collar sweater for chilly mornings because the black shirt doesn’t take away from the main color trend, but it still makes a statement in the outfit as a whole.

The v-neck shows a little skin, a little muscle, and ideally a little chest hair a little tan, all without distracting from the color of the shorts.  It turns the simple, yet sophisticated shorts and sweater outfit (or shirt and shorts on hot days) into a sexy, fun day-out outfit.

We love using pieces to accent others in order to create a mood.  Like perfume with its various notes, outfits must be designed so the various pieces compliment one another to match your personal style.  Mine screams gay club meets the Hamptons, sexy and flashy, yet sophisticated and well groomed.

Play around with the latest and greatest styles and think about ways to work them in to things you already have.  Trends are simply what’s hot now -they are not laws.  Just because something is hot, doesn’t mean it should actually be worn, cough jellies cough.

Design The New Iconic Threadless + Gap Tee

Gap + Threadless 1

It excites me to report that the fashion master-minds behind the Gap and Threadless have decided to join forces to create an elite graphic t-shirt line debuting this spring. The tees will be exclusive pieces that feature never-before-seen designs created by artists from communities all over the world. Since their creation in 2000, an upwards of 1.8 million people have made their dreams a reality on Threadless t-shirts.

Beginning February 27th a handful of Gap stores, as well as the online platform,  will sell the collection that is said to include sixteen men’s and ten women’s graphic t-shirts. The one-of-a-kind shirts, sold for $29.95 each, are said to be bold and buoyant with bright graphics that coincide with Gap’s “Be Bright” spring collection.

Gap + Threadless 2

On their anticipated collaboration, Gap North American President, Art Peck, commented “We share the same belief [with Threadless] that great ideas can come from anywhere, and we can’t wait to give artists another way to get their designs out into the world by selling them in our stores.” Founder of Threadless, Jake Nickell, followed up by saying “…we applaud Gap’s shared mission to celebrate the artists, their stories and their ideas on a much larger platform through their retail stores and Gap.com.”

The new apparel line doesn’t stop with spring, either. Gap + Threadless plan to roll out new styles throughout the year by hosting challenges where artists can submit and vote on which designs will make it to the stores.

Gap + Threadless 3

From February 27 through March 19, artists from all over the world are encouraged to submit design ideas for the new line. Voting will run March 20-26th,  and a combination of the most votes and best comments will determine a winning shirt to be sold in stores in 2012. Artists and fashionistas alike are encouraged to make their design a complete interpretation of their imagination. They are looking for something that is a combination of “funny, geeky, thoughtful, beautiful, even a little weird.”

More instructions on how to enter the Gap + Threadless challenge can be found here.
