This Week in Philly Etsy: Intern Edition
Even though Emily G. usually takes the reins of our weekly Philly Etsy recap, this week we passed the job on to PW intern Amy Saltzman, who rounded up eight great finds.
Least Likely 2 Breed
Best sellers: Bad Ass Booty Balm, Tough Tittie Nipple Rub, Hand Job: Deeply Penetrating Moisturizer
Makes a good gift for: Moms with a sense of humor, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committees
Why you need it: Leigh Stevens was chosen by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to make lip balms for an event during the Presidential Inauguration. What’s good enough for Nancy Pelosi is good enough for me.

Recycling Zychal
Best sellers: Plaid upcycled-umbrellas-turned-dog-coats
Makes a good gift for: Eco-minded dog lovers who don’t mind rain
Why you need it: Taryn Zychal turns old, broken umbrellas into tailor-made puppy raincoats. Think it’s just another excessive piece of miniature clothing that makes dogs pissed at their owners? Take a moment to remember the smell of wet dog. See? Told ya.
Venus in Chains
Best sellers: Chainmail bras. Yes, chainmail.
Makes a good gift for: Renaissance re-enactors, rave club attendees, or anyone who enjoys adding some variety to their lingerie drawers
Why you need it: Victoria Percy describes her most common customers as middle-aged, married men. Makes sense. Anything that combines the appeal of Victoria’s Secret and Braveheart will tug at a guy’s heartstrings.
Shutupandfold
Best sellers: Origami frogs and wedding favors
Makes a good gift for: People tired of being ripped off by Hallmark
Why you need it: It’s LGBT-friendly—the line includes mix and match wedding cards and designer Maggie Wong says she gets many requests for same-sex cards—without being all glitter and rainbows. Added bonus: Most of Wong’s designs skip the cheesy Hallmark poem and come with blank insides for you to write your own message.
BearNewWorld
Best sellers: His only sale thus far, Jeremy Gustafson the two-headed teddy
Makes a good gift for: Kids who dig Chucky and/or taking their toys apart
Why you need it: The key to Hendrik Doorn’s bears isn’t the inverting, but rather the altering, which often leaves bears lacking limbs or sporting multiple heads. Although the bears are bizarre and oftentimes creepy, there is something intriguing about them, something that feels familiar.

Babypop
Best sellers: Children’s capes
Makes a good gift for: Parents of superheroes in training
Why you need it: This gift is an amazing idea for kids because it’s affordable and awesome. My childhood was all about imagination–making clubhouses out of packing boxes and selling sticks as magical wands. I didn’t know how to start a computer or load Windows Live Photo Gallery. If you want your kid to reconnect with nature and entertain themselves for hours on end, what better way to encourage them than with the responsibility of saving all of mankind?

Ivy Lane Designs
Best sellers: “Folks tend to like products that evoke fond childhood memories,” says Ivy Lane
Makes a good gift for: People who see trash as treasure, people who want to make their hoarding habit socially and environmentally acceptable
Why you need it: When a story starts with an empty box of panty liners and ends with something that doesn’t involve a bloody trip to CVS, it’s got my attention.

Fabrik
Best sellers: Reusable produce bags
Makes a good gift for: Those in need of packaging without the baggage of bad karma
Why you need it: Melinda Steffy’s reusable produce bags are light and easily packed for grocery store visits. And since they’re made from clear tulle netting, there’s no confusion with which produce is in which bag. Her reusable snack snacks are really cute, bringing back memories of elementary school lunch bags, complete with Velcro closures.
