What To Do This Weekend

Dr. Sketchy’s this week: A life-drawing session with roller derby ladies in ’80s gear as models and booze. I am constantly annoyed that my work schedule has never let me go to Dr. Sketchy’s.

Sadly there’s no opening reception for the Jason Sho Green show at Art Star, which opens tomorrow, but it’s definitely worth going to take a look.

Drexel’s engineering department is hosting a human-powered vehicle contest in Fairmount Park, going on all weekend. Saturday is sprint and utility competitions, and Sunday is endurance.

Saturday is also the opening of Fresh Melt Water flagship store in Northern Liberties, and it’s gonna be a big old party from 11am to 11pm sponsored by the glorious trifecta of PBR, Red Bull and Big Dawg BBQ.

Oh! Darling

Jen Corace’s exhibition Clementine, up right now at Art Star, is the featured pick on Philly.com at the moment. Ugh, I was so busy with migraines and my epic case of color geekout that I completely forgot to mention it earlier: go see it before it closes on April 14.

I was also very excited to see that Jason Sho Green is having another show at Art Star in mid-April! He has this set of Valentine’s Day cards that are pretty awesome:

So I found those a few years back and then found his blog and then just got way too into his other art, which is not as cartoonish but still not quite realistic…

In any event, I’m excited; his new work is very different from the work that initially got me following him, and I still like it. Opening is on April 18. And in case you happened to click the philly.com link, they have Art Star’s old address listed; their new one is 623 N. 2nd St.
