Kitty Love: Accessories
OK, so over the last few years, I’ve developed a bit of an obsessed with cats. And while I’m realize kitties have become rather trendy, my passion is particularly peculiar considering that I don’t actually own a cat–nor have I ever owned a cat. In fact, I used to be terrified of them.
But anyway, for all the cat owners/enthusiasts out there, I’ve scoured the Web for as many kitty-centric items as I could find and will be presenting them in a three-part installment. So check back over the next few days as I’ll be posting round-ups of feline-adorned apparel as well as home decor.
From Haight Ashbury, With Love
Nestled in mid-San Francisco is the neighborhood of Haight Ashbury: playground for psychedelia-seekers and stage for some the the best bands who ever lived. The cafe and boutique-lined streets still evoke the feelings of the 1970’s today. But real artifacts from decades past can’t be found in the heady shops or with the guitar-pluckers crowning every street corner, but from vintage shops.
Behold Wasteland: perhaps the best secondhand store in all of antiquity. Their warehouse is filled to the brim with vintage offerings, but their website features new items from Motel, Finders Keepers, Insight, BB Dakota, and Jeffrey Campbell as well as top-stitch designers such as Christian Lacroix and Vivienne Westwood. Among my favorite in-store findings were a vintage Morrissey t-shirt, a Billy Joel t-shirt with concert dates in Hebrew, and a faded sunflower cropped denim vest.
Fortunately, Philadelphians don’t have to go as far as the West Coast to create the Haight Ashbury look. Named after the unique neighborhood, local brand Haight Ashbury offers vintage-inspired t-shirts and ready-to-wear items for anyone who desires to express their love of music, nature and originality. Browse their bold selections here, and gain some Haight Ashbury inspiration from their dreamy tumblr.
Or, become inspired by the neighborhood itself looking at some photos below…

And you don’t just have to longingly admire the shoes from afar—you can buy them right on the spot. In fact, BUS STOP will be offering guests 10 percent off their first shoe purchase in addition to raffling off three $50 gift certificates.
Meanwhile, Maggy’s Rooftop Aerial will be spinning some British funk and at 10 p.m., The Trestle Inn’s go-go dancers will take the stage.
Again, it all goes down tomorrow, Wed., May 16 starting at 6 p.m.
A Birthday Bash at BUS STOP

Back on April 14 2007, London-born Elena Brennan opened a quaint boutique along Philly’s historic Fabric Row offering locals hard-to-find designer shoes and accessories. We’re talking some of the most unique, fun footwear you can imagine from international designers like Jeffrey Campbell, Poetic Licence, J Shoes, United Nude Farylrobin, and my own personal fave, Irregular Choice.
Now five years later, BUS STOP has just upgraded to a new and improved space at 727 South Street and continues to be one of the city’s hottest shoe shopping destinations.
To celebrate, this Wednesday from 6-9 p.m., the boutique will be throwing a birthday bash, equipped with cupcakes, Big Bad Fizz cocktails and the groovy British sounds of DJ Oz. Guests will also receive 10 percent off their purchase—15 percent if they bring a friend along.
Believe me, there’s going to be plenty of awesome spring sandals and stilettos for you to drool over. Like these…

The Many Outfits of Ashley Smith
A new viral video has been making its way around the fashionsphere this morning from Jalouse magazine, starring the gap-toothed, o pretty young model Ashley Smith and her many, many outfits. In “Une Fille Comme Les Autres,” the 20-year-old model prances around the city, shopping with friends, flirting with boys, browsing bookshops, going out and, of course, having sex on tables, all in very different outfits. We happen to adore every outfit change in this video and thought it would be fun to recreate them.

(Not so) high heels
It’s time for resolutions, champagne and for many women, a night of pinched toes and blisters. As an avid lover and wearer of high heels I tend to forget that there’s a large portion of ladies (like our favorite Emily G) who do not share in my enjoyment of tip toeing around in four and five-inch stilts.
So to avoid a barefoot walk through the city, here’s a last minute list of “not so high” high heels for those of you who may need to bring it down a notch in order to walk without rolling an ankle or to comfortably hit up 12 different parties while still rocking something other than a ballet flat.
Check it at the jump….
