The Cheap and The Lofty: Minimalist Sandals

In the age where gladiator sandals are climbing further and further up everyone’s calves and simple summer sandals are rattling with more bells and whistles and feathers and rhinestones than one can support with one foot, there is something to be said for the simple, minimalist, barely-there sandal. A true symbol of summer, in our eyes, is paring down and keeping it streamlined. We present you with the jeep of sandals: less parts, less distractions.

We’re in the throes of the winter doldrums. The skies are grey, the air is frigid and the dreams of crocus and tulips peeking out from under piles of snow have started creeping into our minds. It’s the perfect time for a fashion flashback on the looks for Spring 2011 because we all need a little shock of color, a little reminisce about flowing fabrics and a momentary refuge from the dirty slush that’s leaving salt stains on our favorite kicks.

Check out some of our favorite picks from Spring 2011 after the jump. Also, a friendly reminder, the looks of the fall will be waltzing down the runways in New York City February 10-17.

Uniqlo and Jil Sander Pair Up

uniqlo-j-2010-spring-closer-look-4-600x600

I was recently introduced to Uniqlo only to quickly fall in love. It’s like the Japanese version of American Apparel mixed with the Gap but with better clothes, classier advertising and this magical line of super warm leggings, tank tops and tees called Heattech. And according to Uristocrat, the Japanese store has paired up with Jil Sander. They will be launching their line of outerwear and tees in January. One of my favorites from the pre-launch photos is this 3/4 length women’s jacket. It has the feel of  a classic men’s tuxedo without losing its femininity. Maybe everything will be lined with Heattech too, in which case, I’m totally on board. I mean, when I say I am in love, I mean it. I’m wearing a pair of Heattech leggings under my jeans right now!
