Mad for Mad Men

Trends from Mad Men seem to be popping up all over. Marie Claire as well as Sammy Davis Vintage, a website run by Temple University grad Sammy Davis have caught on – have you? We’ve read that 1960’s designs like those from Mad Men emerge in times of economic struggle. Perhaps Mad Men isn’t just a look for Halloween. Hmm…

Lauren Conrad also has a look that seems to go back in time. Glamour asks – are you a fan of her newly bobbed and darkened locks? Glamour also asks if you keep it cute, sexy or full out skanky for Halloween.

Manicured Monday

This weekend, I tried Sally Hansen’s nail polish that claims to dry in 60 Seconds and I LOVED it. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color dries FAST and it’s near impossible to mess up when applying it. The brush expands so you only need ONE STROKE. I wanted my nails done but I can’t seem to find my money tree so this worked out perfectly.

Honey magazine has a great article on Solange, Beyonce’s younger sister. Even if you don’t read the article, check out her brazen style.

And, it’s time for everyone’s favorite, naked ladies! Ok, so maybe they are without clothes, but the focus of Glamour’s article is to celebrate these model’s curves rather than focus on the fact that they’re not wearing clothes. Along the same vein, the blog Young Fat and Fabulous has an exclusive interview with Fluvia Lacerda, a gorgeous plus-size model from Brazil.

Lauren Conrad was spotted wearing this cute number at the The West Hollywood launch of LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s. We’re just not sure if we believe that LC would ever rock any of the looks that are actually on the shelf.

Lastly, the Forever21 bags caught our eye recently. No, not the handbags but rather the yellow shopping bag they give you after a purchase is made. All of these bags seem to be printed with John 3:16. Not the actual bible verse but the refrence to the passage. Wikipedia offers this explanation:

“Forever 21 prints the biblical reference to John 3:16 at the bottom of their shopping bags due to the fervent biblical belief of the founder, Do-Won Chang.”

It seems like bloggers and reporters alike are upset, but what do you think?

Test of Time

Coco Before Chanel

Amidst the insanity that is fashion week, there was one show that featured the designs of a certain reality TV star.  It’s Whitney Port, who Glamour has labeled as a ‘trendoid’. Since we just watched a screening of Coco Before Chanel and are now obsessed with classic designs – we beg the question, will Whitney’s collection last?  Or, will it end up in the clearance bin at Kohl’s like her buddy Lauren Conrad’s designs? Ouch.

Speaking of things that stand the test of time, there’s a cute company called Little Bird Style run by two visionary twenty somethings. Little Bird aims to style girls eighteen and under in the best way possible. Little Bird dresses girls well, but doesn’t veer off into grow up too fast territory. Before you dismiss it because of the target audience, take a look at the blog and sign up for the newsletter, set to be released next week.

Lastly, Frederic Fekkai is giving away shampoo!  No, really. Head over to the closest Saks Fifth Avenue on Thursday with the shampoo you currently use in hand. It doesn’t matter if the bottle is empty or full, and they’ll give you a bottle of Fekkai shampoo. Information on the event was included in a Daily Candy e-mail blast, but it is also Facebook official. The closest store to Philly is in Bala Cynwyd, but knock yourself out with the store locator.

Feel Like Freaking Out?

I’m not a doctor, but I’m not entirely sure if the freak-out over swine flu is completely justified. As far as I know, there have been more deaths from the regular flu, and it seems that the coverage of this “outbreak” has occurred at the same time as ’sweeps week,’ when networks look to boost ratings. 

That said, if you feel like freaking out, there are masks out there. Some of them are pretty entertaining. There’s this one that looks like a tiger

Also, Madame Sarkozy, First Lady of France seems to have one up-ed Michelle Obama.  Instead of going sleeveless, Mme has gone backless. Thoughts?
