Across The Pond
I came across Uniqlo while I was studying in London. The Japanese retailer wasn’t on this side of the pond at that point, and I thought that I had come across buried treasure. There’s a store in NYC’s SoHo neighborhood now, but it’s still not as common as it is in the UK, France, Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong or Singapore. However, thanks to the magic of the Internet you can order any of their products online, including their awesome HEATTECH Line. HEATTECH does magical things – generates heat, and controls odor (that’s always a concern when we’re trying to stay toasty — but not too toasty) while remaining soft and static free. You can also check out Uniqlo’s winter collection HEATTECH and otherwise.
Also inspired by across the pond designs – this cute skirt that Rachel Zoe also loves from Topshop. Rachel discusses it in her blog in the Parallel Universe section.
This morning Marie Claire points the way to Bright Bags, the NY Times discusses the cultural phenomenon that is Blake Lively’s hair — and to think, it was under a hat in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. In addition to having Ellen on the cover, O Magazine discusses Cargo’s Runway Kit available at Sephora – blush and eyeshadow styled to look like chunky sweater knits and buttons respectively.
Mad for Mad Men
Trends from Mad Men seem to be popping up all over. Marie Claire as well as Sammy Davis Vintage, a website run by Temple University grad Sammy Davis have caught on – have you? We’ve read that 1960’s designs like those from Mad Men emerge in times of economic struggle. Perhaps Mad Men isn’t just a look for Halloween. Hmm…
Lauren Conrad also has a look that seems to go back in time. Glamour asks – are you a fan of her newly bobbed and darkened locks? Glamour also asks if you keep it cute, sexy or full out skanky for Halloween.
Check out Rittenhouse Square’s website for info on their costume competition – skanky or not, they’d love to have you.
These Shoes Were Made for Walking
Glamour has been keeping an eye on Fashion Week Paris, and has compiled a list of shoes from the city of light.
When we’re batting our lashes at Philly Weekly, which happens sometimes we wonder if that old standby from Maybelline that comes in the green and pink tube is really the best mascara out there. Teen Vogue went ahead and tested and reviewed a mascara a day for an entire month. We wish we could apply for a job like that, but we’ll stick with reading the review for now.
We spotted these next little goodies in Marie Claire, but they’re also available at Foster’s on Market Street. Helpineedhelp.com has cute little packages with bandages and aspirin and antihistamines inside. It reminds us of our childhood when we thought bandaids were so cool that we’d put them on when we didn’t have a cut…or umm…maybe we shouldn’t talk about that?
There’s also a ‘help i’m bored’ section which has cute little links. ‘help i’m overstimulated’ leads to a blank white box, while ‘help i’m too nice’ gives you engines to imitate to practice growling.
Lastly, the Today Show posted a list of over the top gifts from Nieman Marcus, which included motorized cupcakes that you can drive around in. Really. Hoda & Kathie Lee were driving in them during the fourth hour of the show. At $25,000 a pop, we’re running to get not one, but two.
Karate Kid

Marie Claire recently posted a slideshow of pictures of their November cover girl, Hillary Swank. The Next Karate Kid sure looks glamorous and we like it.
Rachel Zoe is going to be on QVC selling her new accessories line! Just don’t be a creep and wait for her outside their West Chester studio. Just sayin’.
Katy Perry was seen in Paris wearing the French designer that’s making a comeback – Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. If the Francais has you tongue-tied, just call it JC /DC for short – sort of like how Yves Saint Laurent is also known by it’s acronym, YSL.
Castelbajac’s designs are full of Disney and Sesame street designs like the one seen on Katy. M.I.A has also been rocking their stuff post-baby, and we think Kayne would wear JC/DC if he wasn’t busy cancelling tours. Either way, this designer’s pop art creations are set for a big comeback.
Also at Paris’ fashion week were Chanel lovers Lily Allen and Rihanna. Chanel isn’t making a comeback since this French classic never went anywhere, but it’s set to be bigger than ever with Coco Before Chanel telling the story of the woman behind the brand.
A former consumer reporter has launched a new website called Lush Click. It’s cute. It doesn’t have an extraordinary amount of content since it just launched, but it has great potential. Mosey on over when you get the chance.
Lastly, Daily Candy has posted pictures of the Haunted Poe tour.
Red Carpets and Runways
Red Carpet pictures from the Emmy Awards are all over news and fashion websites this morning. E! News, which had the red carpet live has pictures of Heidi Klum with her baby bump, as well as many pictures and video of interviews. ABC 6 has a slide-show up, as well as Philly.com and NYTimes.com. NBC10 has a bunch of slide-shows up including ladies in red on the red carpet, and what NBC considered Faux Paus. Some dresses like are a bit over the top like this one but the NBC slide-show’s reviews are a little mean. Taking a jab at someone’s stretch marks on the red carpet? Ouch.
Marie Claire seems to be in love with Whitney Port’s new line, while we stand by our question of whether or not it has staying power.
Glamour revisits 80’s trends and those that made them popular. Glamour also takes a last look at New York’s fashion week, by highlighting 20 outfit ideas, while Net A Porter highlights 25 reasons to love London’s Fashion week.
Fall Fashion
Marie Claire shows you how to give to charity while making standard purchases such as earrings, shoe laces and eye makeup.
The bulk of this week’s fashion events will take place in NYC’s Bryant Park, but New looks for fall will also be on display tonight at Marathon Grill on Walnut Street.
We’ve blogged about Anna Sui’s new line at Target before, but here are some more picture’s of Sui’s designs for the megastore.
This season, Ann Taylor is attempting to break away from office wear. We think it’s safe to say Ann is doing a good job. Here are what the women’s clothing retailer calls their favorite 20 looks for the season.
NBC10 has a bunch of fashion links up as well. There’s this article which has some wacky scarves, leggings and info on sales at American Apparel. NBC10 contributor Lilliana Vazquez also put together a piece on cheap and comfortable clothing.
Lastly, the bad banana blog is written from what the creator describes as “the furthest you can be from New York and Los Angeles at the same time,” this blog is full of clever anecdotes and pieces of information
Wacky Wednesday
PW Style Blog hearts Glamour magazine. They’ve always got great links to beauty tips, nail polish giveaways, and information on how to design your own Chanel bag. However, we’re not so sure how we feel about how Glamour feels about it’s readers. Apparently Glamour readers are supposed to be cheerful and bright – like cupcakes?
Marie Claire, which we suppose is Glamour’s direct competitor doesn’t just discuss cupcakes. They explain party myths and how common misconceptions might get you in trouble. Read up before you drink up.
Fashion week in NYC means random events throughout the city as usual with a fashionista twist. Check out this list — the Olsen twins are working as DJ’s?
Philly.com features Fall Trends and women in Philadelphia workin’ Market Street like it’s a runway. Philly.com also pointed the way to this inspiring article from Elle magazine. A homeless girl still found a way to blog and keep herself relevant, as well as catch the eye of an editor at the fashion bible. The story is better in the words of the one that lived it. Luckily, you can read the writings of this young woman who has already overcome so much. She’s currently being featured as a blogger on Elle’s website.
Sunshine Day

One of my obsessions in the summer months is definitely strawberries. It looks like the writers at Glamour share my appreciation for the summertime fruit.
Keeping your hair healthy is hard work, especially during the summer months. Being somewhat of a bottle blonde myself…I don’t go Heidi Pratt light, but I do have highlights…I know first hand how dry hair can get and that it needs extra attention. Here are some tips from Marie Claire to keep your tresses in tip top shape.
Maybe this is a little bit too much information, but website TresSugar has compiled a list of Maxi Pad Ads from different decades. I found it facinating. You can pass on it if you’d like, but’s just interesting to see adds from different decades. TresSugar also put together a list of what they call ‘Must Reads’ for July. Worth looking at for trips to the beach.
The page of TresSugar however, that I’m so excited about is the slideshow featuring girls that wear glasses! A flamboyant boy last weekend told me that glasses are having ‘a moment’ which made me really happy since I’ve been wearing spectacles since I had an eye injury last October. After wearing contacts for 10 years, it’s an interesting shift to say the least. TresSugar is helping make that shift just a little bit easier.
Also, Coach has a new collection called ‘Poppy.’ The website is fun to click through as well as utilize to drool over overpriced handbags.
Lastly, Perez put up a video of Kendra of Girls Next Door fame’s wedding. It’s cute. And, if you’re not a fan of Kendra’s laugh, not to worry. She doesn’t giggle too much.
Rat Tales
Famed Shoe Designer Jimmy Choo is collaborating with H&M! This article from the Wall Street Journal gives more details, but all you really need to know is the shoes will be avaliable in the fall. Ahh!
All this rain doesn’t make for such fun times with the flat iron. I’ve been trying to figure out how to create the perfect curls for the past few days, and while I’ve had some ok waves, Marie Claire explains how to get full out ringlets. They even have a video if you’re a visual learner like I am…or if you just like videos.
The Metro’s style blogger speaks out against 80’s trends that she thinks should never come back. Reading it made me remember how protective some little boys were over their rat tails in the early 90’s. I think it was a hard thing to let go of for some. Why did that ever seem like a good idea? ‘Mommy…I want a rat tail!’ What?
The Metro also did a list of things that Organic Beauty Product Company founder Yael Alkalay likes. It’s like a Hippie Oprah list. Nice.
Speidi and Fake Bakes
Looks like Heidi and Spencer from The Hills or Speidi as they are referred to by Perez, tied the knot this past weekend. In the Us Weekly spread, it says the dress and the jewels were quite pricey. Otherwise, I don’t think anything seems over the top.
Spencer’s creepy flesh colored beard is gone, which is always a good thing. I know Heidi is from the middle of the mountains, so I’m not surprised by dad’s cowboy hat. Lauren Conrad’s outfit seems like one for any other day for her. What are your thoughts?
A while back, NBC10 did a slideshow on celebs that were too pale. Well, Us Weekly did a spread on celebs that are too tan. As much of a genius as he is, Garavani Valentino is the creepiest in this set of photos.
It’s easy to forget how much Fergie of Black Eyed Peas fame has changed her look over the past few years. Looks like you’ve got some catching up to do.
Marie Claire found some cute perfumes on keychains! So cute, definitely worth a look if nothing else!
Philadelphia Magazine attempted to highlight this seasons trends, but I’m not a huge fan of their coverage since the prices are beyond steep for each item that they feature. Cosmo did a better job, giving you ideas on what you can do with pieces you already have.
