Manic Monday
Bloomingdale’s has picked up on the fact that not everyone has money to throw around these days, and has listed a bunch of accessories and shoes under 100 bucks. Nice.
Express doesn’t have any new deals, but they are featuring new coats for fall.
Also, NBC10 has a bunch of links up that should keep you busy until lunch…or at least for the next five minutes. First off there’s a slide show featuring Michelle Obama’s style. NBC10’s Lilliana Vazquez points the way to bold jewelry, and Garren talks about his path to doing hair for the stars.
Lastly, The Thread, NBC’s fashion blog picked out a list of best dressed celebs, and even more pictures of Jimmy Choo’s upcoming line at H&M.
Starfleet Style: the new Star Trek
Like any good geek, this past Friday I went to see the new Star Trek movie; I really enjoyed it! I’m not going to spoil the plot if you’re planning to go see it, but I will say there was quite a bit of polyester involved.
The nerd in me would like to give props to the costuming department for updating the Starfleet uniform so nicely into the 21st century… then the rest of me tells the nerdy part to shut up and to just enjoy how damn good Zachary Quinto looks in it– even if he has pointy ears.
But really, trekkies –for better or worse– are some of the most observent people on the planet. The fans who re-create the props and costumes are so detail oriented they put the masses to shame. So, I wonder how they would feel if they noticed a few pieces for the Spring/Summer 2009 runway that appear to have some old school Trek inspired pieces?
Key elements in the retro space-style seem to be high necklines, interesting texture and primary colors.
Not to mention… the new cast is hot! Check out Zoe Saldana, the new Lieutenant Uhura, rocking the premiere in this Prabal Gurung get-up.
And the new Spock, Zachary Quinto, graced GQ magazine last month, modeling raincoats.
Zombies Come To Philly
The trend of hacking into road signs has made it’s way to Philly. A ‘zombies ahead’ sign was seen along route 212 in Richland Township. While the sign is hilarious, it can also endanger the lives of motorists. Careful out there! It’s pretty easy to break the code to reprogram a road sign, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. You might want to get your kicks elsewhere.
It looks like Barclay Prime just might be the place to keep you entertained, as they’ve introduced a new lower priced menu.
Someone else that’s slashing their prices is Michael Kors, amongst other designers. Items on the website Yoox.com are up to 90% off. Designers featured on Yoox include Marni, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Costume National, Stella McCartney, Diesel, and Valentino.
And while Target might not be Erica’s favorite store, they currently have the Alexander McQueen pieces hanging from their racks. Definitely worth a peek—McQueen’s designs leave target April 14th. If you’d like to avoid the South Philly target that caused Erica so much trouble, try Plymouth Meeting, Exton, Jenkintown or Allentown.
Be sure to hit up department stores makeup counters for beauty products, they’re giving away samples now more than ever. La Mer, Estee Lauder and Clinique’s expensive cousin, is giving out free facials. Remember, it’s a buyer’s market…cosmetics included.
