Vogue and Style.com have posted a few pictures and an article focusing on the movie-musical Nine. The pictures feature a phenomenal lineup – Judi Dench, Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson, Fergie, Nicole Kidman, Penélope Cruz, and Sophia Loren. Britain’s Daily Mail also has pictures up of the musical.

Glamour is inviting readers to select the best dressed in Hollywood. They’ve a also posted a slide show featuring unboring work outfits, while Marie Claire has a slide shows to help curvy girls find jeans and Michelle Obama’s signature look.

Lastly, NBC10 has information on Barbie’s latest makeover – done by Christian Louboutin. Apparently Louboutin found Barbie’s ankles to be too large, and made them thinner to complete the makeover. While we love Louboutin’s signature red bottomed shoes as much as the next girl, we can’t help but wonder – really?

Manic Monday

Michael Kors Glasses from Bloomies - under 100 bucks

Bloomingdale’s has picked up on the fact that not everyone has money to throw around these days, and has listed a bunch of accessories and shoes under 100 bucks. Nice.

Express doesn’t have any new deals, but they are featuring new coats for fall.

Also, NBC10 has a bunch of links up that should keep you busy until lunch…or at least for the next five minutes. First off there’s a slide show featuring Michelle Obama’s style. NBC10’s Lilliana Vazquez points the way to bold jewelry, and Garren talks about his path to doing hair for the stars.

Lastly, The Thread, NBC’s fashion blog picked out a list of best dressed celebs, and even more pictures of Jimmy Choo’s upcoming line at H&M.

Obama’s hot, hot, hot

Yesterday Maxim came out with numbers 100-91 on its Hot 100 list of (surprise!) the 100 women they regard as hottest. The actual surprise was that the list, which generally limits itself to women who might conceivably pose in lingerie on Maxim’s pages, included Michelle Obama.

Obama beat out Deanna Russo of Knight Rider, Melissa Rycroft of The Bachelor, Rebecca Mader of LOST (yay LOST!), Marisa Tomei for her role in the Wrestler, Olivia Munn of Attack of the Show, Padma Lakshmi of Top Chef, Yvonne Strahovski of Chuck and the rest of the world’s estimated 3 billion women to land at number 93.

It’s a weird thing; I kind of want to give Maxim credit for being able to find sexiness in something other than their archetypical back-arching starlet. But something about it gives me the heebie-jeebies. Would we like Michelle Obama as much if she didn’t obviously spend a lot of time working on her arms? Would we have liked Hillary Clinton more if she had ? Would we have liked Sarah Palin less if she wasn’t attractive enough to have been a beauty queen?

For that matter, how sexy would Maxim find Michelle Obama if she hadn’t (basically) given up her career to help her husband move forward? Just something to think about.

100 Days of Style

In honor of President Obama being in office for 100 days there has been much analysis.  However, USA Today also made sure that there is a breakdown of what Michelle has been wearing.

People.com compiled a slideshow of shoes that they think are outrageous. I’m just in love with each and every pair. If anyone out there wants to give me a pair of any of the shoes pictures, please feel free.  Aso check out People.com’s home page, the are set to release the names on their 100 Most Beautiful People list.

David Beckham is launching his own style collection! It looks like the collection will be on the more sporty side than the metro sexual side, as the collection is a joint venture with Adidas.

Jezebel posted pages from a 1972 Sears Catalogue. Do any of the pieces in your closet look like these?

Voice Lessons

As predicted, Michelle Obama’s outfits across the pond proved to be a big deal. I came across one slideshow with over 500 pictures!  I can’t even imagine being photographed that many times while sipping tea.

If you can’t afford voice lessons, don’t use this as a substitute.  However, fast forwarding to 2:15 is rather amusing. One of my favorite quotes from this video is when the girl says ”it usually goes higher in price when it gets more expensive.” Wow. Is that you, Yogi Berra?

Meghan McCain has been spotted lunching with reality star Tila Tequila. Meghan seems pretty cool, and even has her own blog. It’s just an odd thing to try and figure out how she ever crossed paths with Tila. So, if McCain was voted into office, does that mean Tila would have lunch at the White House?  Just wondering. Also, it looks like Meghan’s old lunch buddy Heidi Montag has moved on to releasing new music.

I’ve never been in a transportation hub when a choreographed dance broke out, but I’d love to be.  Does someone want to help me make that happen?

Sailor Jerry

Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum had it’s 10 millionth bottle of rum come off the production line last Thursday. To commemorate the creation of the 10 millionth bottle, Sailor Jerry gave away a special edition bottle. The Spiced Rum is inspired by “Sailor Jerry” style tattoos, first created by Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins.

The Obamas head to Europe today. While some will pay attention to Barack, all eyes will be on Michelle,. The first lady is being compared to Jackie O. This is because of the amount of attention that she’s drawn since taking office. Michelle’s got that certain something that has made Europeans fall in love with her.  This love persists even though she wears flats around DC. The overseas itinerary includes tea with the queen and a visit to Prauge’s Jewish quarter.

Someone else that is overseas is Madonna. She’s interested in adopting a second child from Malawi, but not everyone agrees. What do you think? And Is it okay that Miss Philadelphia isn’t actually from Philly?

signed, sealed, delivered

Last night, the buzz over Michelle Obama’s dress style was starting to simmer down…sleeveless? in February? At Night?  Unheard of!

The occupants of the White House had moved on to the next item on the agenda. The BBC reported that Stevie Wonder was awarded the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize at the White House.

This award was much deserved. Stevie has helped out President Obama quite a bit. “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” could be heard at every single Obama event held in the Philadelphia area during the campaign season. The song  was played immediately following Obama’s speeches. It added that certain something to the end of the speeches.

As far as state-side news sources, the LA Times has an article up about how the Obamas are more conscious of art than their predecessors.

Continuing with stories from the BBC…I’m a bit of an Anglophile, I blame the semester I spent studying in London. I fell in love with pieces of British culture across the pond and haven’t quite gotten over it.

In the Spirit of Inauguration Day, I Give You Stylish Links on First Lady Fashion!

Americans everywhere are excited to celebrate the historical inauguration of President Barack Obama. I wait with bated breath to welcome his leadership, hear his address to the nation, and I’m equally and shamelessly just as thrilled see what dress our new First Lady has chosen to wear to the Inaugural Ball.

Commander in Chic: These beauty secrets keep Michelle Obama looking fresh and fabulous.

Following in their mother’s footsteps, Malia and Sasha Obama are also rising fashion icons among their peers.  The young sisters are such a hit among tweens that even Hollywood recognizes their star quality. The girls are rumored to have been invited to appear opposite Miley Cyrus on Disney’s hit show, Hannah Montana.

Michelle Obama isn’t the only woman to make a fashion statement at the White House. Many First Ladies throughout history have inspired the way we express ourselves through dress from the royal taste of Dolley Madison to the chic simplicity of Jackie O.

While waiting for your first glimpse of what will be “the dress,” check out this slide show featuring gowns and glitz of Inaugural Balls past.

Reading Material

The day after Obama won the election, I called my mom. After 20 minutes of talking seriously about voting, the election coverage and why John McCain couldn’t have made such great speeches during the campaign, my mom asked me what I thought of Michelle Obama’s dress. I loved it. She hated it.

Looks like the lovely Mrs. Obama is going to be a style icon (or at least more so than, say, Hillary “I love me some pastel pants suits” Clinton). Follow her daily dressings at Mrs. O, a blog dedicated to following the fashion of Michelle Obama. This feels a little too Royal Family to me. But as long as there’s no collectible plates, I guess we’re all good.
