Say Yes To The Dress

The NY Times has an article that may solve all your reservations about buying a designer dress. Granted that all you are concerned about the price, the price and the price. Rent the Runway is a company set up to let you borrow dresses when you need them, and only pay for the nights you have them. It’s like the Netflix or the Bag, Borrow, or Steal of dresses.

Lucky Magazine is full of nuggets of information, including this one — Sears is carrying a line of Rock & Redemption Jewelry, all for under $100! Allure’s got some nuggets too, including information on how there are some winter beauty myths out there that they’d like to clear up.

We love our Carol’s Daughter’s shea butter lotion, and we love knowing that it’s made from all natural products. If you don’t love Carol’s Daughter you should read up on the company – and the fact that Erykah Badu and Brad Pitt are fans. What’s got us smitten right now is the new beauty collections branded with The Princess and The Frog designs.

Lastly, play around with Net-A-Porter’s suggestions to winterize. Even if you can’t afford their price points, the design of this page is worth a look all on it’s own.

Red Carpets and Runways

Red Carpet pictures from the Emmy Awards are all over news and fashion websites this morning.  E! News, which had the red carpet live has pictures of Heidi Klum with her baby bump, as well as many pictures and video of interviews. ABC 6 has a slide-show up, as well as Philly.com and NYTimes.com. NBC10 has a bunch of slide-shows up including ladies in red on the red carpet, and what NBC considered Faux Paus. Some dresses like are a bit over the top like this one but the NBC slide-show’s reviews are a little mean. Taking a jab at someone’s stretch marks on the red carpet? Ouch.

Marie Claire seems to be in love with Whitney Port’s new line, while we stand by our question of whether or not it has staying power.

Glamour revisits 80’s trends and those that made them popular. Glamour also takes a last look at New York’s fashion week, by highlighting 20 outfit ideas, while Net A Porter highlights 25 reasons to love London’s Fashion week.

Sunshine Day

With the sunshine finally peeking out and temperatures rising, you might be inclined to throw on a sundress. Just make sure you don’t become a don’t. I’m open to a lot of different interpretations of things, but sun dresseses are not something to mess around with.

Recently, you may have been tempted by a good buy in a thrift shop, Salvation Army or Goodwill. If you’ve ever been tempted by a pair of shoes in one of these stores, but also a bit skeeved out because you pictured someone else’s sweaty feet inside of them…here’s how to disinfect your footwear.

Glamour magazine also has a list of the ‘50 Most Glamorous,’ which translates to powerful and stylish women that have made an impact. Love it.

Cosmo has put together a list of exercises to do in order to get whipped into shape like your favorite celebs.

If you need something to help pull you through until 5 o’clock, check out TopShop’s video podcast, as well as this necklace that they’re selling. Afterward, head on over to Net A Porter’s site to be inspired by brights for summer. For something a little more affordable, but also a little less bright…check out Alexander Wang at the Gap!

Fab Philly

Looks like our neighbors to the north finally realized how awesome Philly is. The Ottawa Citizen ran an article on some of the things that make Philly shine.

Even with the glimmering review of the city, some attractions went undetected to the Canuck author of the article. It’s really not his fault though, some things that make Philly shine aren’t as prominent as others. Consider the hidden old Metropolitan Opera House on North Broad Street.

Something that probably should remain hidden is this new Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr Ad featuring Padma Lakshmi, host of Top Chef. Padma pretty much makes out with a massive burger in this one. I’ve seen Padma in person. She’s beautiful, and funny.  This ad? Not so much.

To literally spice things up, The Indian restaurant with home delivery, Tiffin has created a line of spices. They are available at different locations in the city, including Foster’s Urban Homeware. Yum.

Lastly, to send you off into the weekend in style, online luxury fashion retailer Net-A-Porter has just rolled out an outlet partner site.  Told you it was a buyer’s market.
