Across The Pond
I came across Uniqlo while I was studying in London. The Japanese retailer wasn’t on this side of the pond at that point, and I thought that I had come across buried treasure. There’s a store in NYC’s SoHo neighborhood now, but it’s still not as common as it is in the UK, France, Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong or Singapore. However, thanks to the magic of the Internet you can order any of their products online, including their awesome HEATTECH Line. HEATTECH does magical things – generates heat, and controls odor (that’s always a concern when we’re trying to stay toasty — but not too toasty) while remaining soft and static free. You can also check out Uniqlo’s winter collection HEATTECH and otherwise.
Also inspired by across the pond designs – this cute skirt that Rachel Zoe also loves from Topshop. Rachel discusses it in her blog in the Parallel Universe section.
This morning Marie Claire points the way to Bright Bags, the NY Times discusses the cultural phenomenon that is Blake Lively’s hair — and to think, it was under a hat in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. In addition to having Ellen on the cover, O Magazine discusses Cargo’s Runway Kit available at Sephora – blush and eyeshadow styled to look like chunky sweater knits and buttons respectively.
It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s a USB Port?

Somehow we’ve never come across this one before. 2leep.com – a website that features blogs from what seems like EVERYWHERE. If you look through the links, which are endless, you’ll find posts on creative USB Port Drivers, sneakers made out of paper, weird iPhone holders, creative candle designs. That’s just a limited sampling. The posts linked at this site are on every topic you could possibly think of.
Glamour.com let us know that Christian Sirianos designs are available at Payless – all for under $50! Nice. Glamour has also found boots for under $150 – they’re so good to us!
Lastly, Ellen is finally on the cover of O Magazine! She campaigned for months and she’s finally on the cover. Check out the photo shoot here.
Batty Brits
The New York Times dedicated this past weekend’s T – their style magazine to what they’re calling the Batty Brits. Included in the magazine are Boy George, and actress Samantha Morton. The interactive counterpart to the magazine should help you ease into your monday morning, or atleast keep you occupied for the next five minutes.
The chill in the air has made us crave boots. In Imelda Marcos amounts. Oprah gets it. The latest edition of O highlights the best of the boots available this fall, including the most comfortable, and the most affordable.
Self magazine is the lookout for underwear that won’t give you a wedgie at the gym, and Alyssa Milano has some cute stuff to wear while you cheer on the Phillies from her line created just for women, Touch.
Lastly, I Heart Daily discusses the Ralph Lauren model that was heavily photoshopped and allegedly fired, and features a Q & A with a professional retoucher. The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty video at the bottom is eye opening to say the least.
Pope-rah
During an interview with Leno, Dennis Leary explained that his mother thinks Oprah is the Pope, and refers to the talk show host as Pope-rah. Basically the same is true in my house. When describing what Christian Louboutins looked like to my mom, she asked if Oprah wore them. It was only then that she knew exactly what I was talking about.
Perhaps Oprah does deserve the Pope-rah title. I mean, after all she does compile a wonderful array of lists every month for her magazine and website. This month’s include “affordable” fashion, which to Oprah means anything under 100 bucks. That doesn’t mean the whole outfit, just individual pieces, but what did you expect from Pope-rah?
Pope-rah also has a feature on Isaac Mizrahi’s new “affordable” collection for Liz Claiborne. This time, nothing is over 200 bucks. Oprah also wants to help you get out the door quicker. Behold the “50 ways to speed up your beauty routine.”
For Easter, I baked a Lamb Cake. My grandma is Czech, and she always makes a little Lambie cake for Easter. However, I’ve read that this is a tradition shared by other Eastern European countries as well. Now that I’ve baked the little Lamb cake, I’m so over regularly shaped cakes. I guess I’ll just have to watch Ace of Cakes to teach myself how to create more specialty cakes. Or, perhaps I’ll head over to Night Kitchen Bakery or Whipped Bakeshop for inspiration. Yumm.
If you’re over the cake stuff, be sure to check out this geography quiz. It might sound nerdy, but it’s really fun. I Promise.
Metro Reassures Oprah: Fat Girls Have More Sex
Oprah, inspirational icon to anyone with even the slightest weight issues, is fat again. She reveals in the January 2009 issue of O magazine that she now weighs 200 pounds, a 40-pound increase since 2006.
Folks might remember Oprah’s epic weight loss in 1988, which she celebrated by rolling out of a wagon filled with 67 pounds of fat to represent the weight she’d lost using a liquid protein diet.
The AP reports:
Winfrey’s weight and height put her body mass index at 31.8, which is obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC says people who are obese are “at higher risk for chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol.” [AP]
But we think maybe someone should send Oprah a copy of today’s Metro for inspiration. Sure, she might be fat, but apparently, that doesn’t mean she won’t get laid.
