Street Snaps: Kings Rule Together
Kings Rule Together is one hell of a good looking blog. In fact, our fellow PW Style contributor, Fajr, designed the site. But it’s the person behind the site (the one generating the content!) that really gives it the edge, and as you can see with today’s Street Snaps, Curran Swint knows what he’s doing.
“My name is Curran. I’m twenty-four and I’m from Mount Airy. I’ve lived here all twenty-four years.”
If you’re gonna talk about Philadelphia in a stylistic way, how would you describe it?
“I would describe Philly as very trendy, and I believe that Philly started a lot of different trends. We might not get credit for a lot of things, but we definitely started a lot of different trends. I think the fashion scene in Philly is starting to grow more and get more respected, you know, especially in 2011, 2010. Everybody started to see how stylish Philadelphia really is.”
Are there any particular trends you could put a name to?
“The beards, for one [motions to own]. That’s just a part of style on a lot of people in Philly…. Just from us rolling up our pants… Um, what else? Like, the Mitchell & Ness days, and jerseys — that started in Philly. What else… I dunno. That’s off the top.”
Those are good, the beards and the rolled pants. Is there anything you’ve been seeing lately that you’re like, oh what’s this that the kids are doing?
“I really just like to see individuality. I really just like to see people do their thing. I don’t really care what’s the trend. I don’t follow trends, I never did. I just like to see people just be themselves. As long as you’re wearing whatever you think you wanna wear, wear it, you know? Individuality.”
Is there anything you’ve been consuming, media-wise or whatever, that’s been inspiring the way you dress lately?
“Just people. People and… just life. I get inspired off of everything that I see. I see the color of a bike. I see how he has his outfit over there [motions to passing guy] — I might do that same thing that he has on, but I might — like the glasses, I’ve never really wore no glasses like them, you know, but that might be cool with something. I get inspired by watching other people.”
Do you have a favorite piece on?
“This jacket. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately. It’s a vintage piece, you know, from a thrift store. I get a lot of stuff from there. I like my accessories and stuff. I’ve been wearing my accessories a lot lately.”
Do you have any wise words for people that wanna wear more accessories but they’re shy or whatever?
“Well accessories, they’ll enhance your look. You can have a plain outfit or whatever, you can have on a white button-up, a regular pair of jeans, and a pair of Chucks. But having accessories — having a piece chain, some bracelets, some watches — that enhances the whole look. Maybe from the color, or maybe just from the style. So it enhances your look when you have on a plain outfit, so accessories are definitely a good thing to do.”
Do you have any last comments, questions?
“Dress how you want to be addressed. That’s how I say. That’s how I got a lot of things that I’ve been doing. I dress appropriate, I stand out. Personality. Be humble. And you know, you’ll get far in life, just by the way you carry yourself. So.”
