Across The Pond

Cargo's Runway Kit

I came across Uniqlo while I was studying in London. The Japanese retailer wasn’t on this side of the pond at that point, and I thought that I had come across buried treasure. There’s a store in NYC’s SoHo neighborhood now, but it’s still not as common as it is in the UK, France, Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong or Singapore. However, thanks to the magic of the Internet you can order any of their products online, including their awesome HEATTECH Line. HEATTECH does magical things – generates heat, and controls odor (that’s always a concern when we’re trying to stay toasty — but not too toasty) while remaining soft and static free. You can also check out Uniqlo’s winter collection HEATTECH and otherwise.

Also inspired by across the pond designs – this cute skirt that Rachel Zoe also loves from Topshop. Rachel discusses it in her blog in the Parallel Universe section.

This morning Marie Claire points the way to Bright Bags, the NY Times discusses the cultural phenomenon that is Blake Lively’s hair — and to think, it was under a hat in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. In addition to having Ellen on the cover, O Magazine discusses Cargo’s Runway Kit available at Sephora – blush and eyeshadow styled to look like chunky sweater knits and buttons respectively.

Spooky Scary

As we’ve discussed before, Heidi Klum LOVES dressing up for Halloween. Here are some of her costume ideas, as highlighted by SeventeenSephora windows are highlighting looks for Halloween, but Bare Minerals is giving away treats today for every day looks when you spend $50.  Treats included are the hydrating mineral veil – (it that goes on after you apply your makeup to lock in moisture), primer, exfoliator called RareMinerals renew & reveal, cleanser, a moisturizer called RareMinerals purely nourishing that’s supposed to increase cell renewal as well as an additional moisturizer. Not to shabby, and zero calories, unlike many other treats available today.

If you’re like some of us at Philly Weekly and decided to wait until the last minute to figure out a costume, be sure to watch this Daily Candy video on costumes you can throw together including a Cereal Killer and a Kraft Singles cheese slice.  The Today Show also had costume ideas on this morning that can be pulled together last minute, including the Fanta girls.

Glamour has some do’s and don’ts for Halloween, including walking around like a stripper. Hmm. We tend to think that Halloween is the day when you can get away with almost anything but we guess there are still some rules.

And, if you’re having buyers remorse about your Halloween costume, don’t worry. At least you didn’t buy these $400 Louis Vuitton Bunny Ears that Rachel Zoe is in love with. Usually we like Rachel’s picks, even the high end ones, but $400 bucks for ears? Really?

Back on the Chain Gang

Rachel Zoe’s daily newsletter features a Parallel Universe section which highlights accessories and clothes at more practical price points. Today’s is a cute ring from Banana Republic. We think cocktail rings and bold accessories are fun, especially for the colder months when our fingers aren’t swollen. Ew.

The fashion bible Vogue has a page that mentions New York’s Fashion Night Out, but also has a guide featuring 100 buys under 100 bucks. We’re fans of a good buy, and always think of Grace Coddington, Vogue’s creative director and our favorite underdog from The September Issue.

The Inky gave Coco Before Chanel three out of four stars! All the more reason to see Gabrielle “Coco” in her early days if you haven’t already.

NBC10 points the way to USB drives that are more glam than usual. They’re a bit pricier than flash drives, but we don’t think that you’ll ever lose it.

Lastly, this website featuring a competition of ‘who wore it best’ is possibly the cutest we’ve ever seen. Two guys from Philly are competing with each other to see who wears a tie the best every work day in October. They also have to wear a shirt with some sort of collar. Go take a look. It’s cute. We promise.

Karate Kid

Marie Claire recently posted a slideshow of pictures of their November cover girl, Hillary Swank. The Next Karate Kid sure looks glamorous and we like it.

Rachel Zoe is going to be on QVC selling her new accessories line! Just don’t be a creep and wait for her outside their West Chester studio. Just sayin’.

Katy Perry was seen in Paris wearing the French designer that’s making a comeback – Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. If the Francais has you tongue-tied, just call it JC /DC for short – sort of like how Yves Saint Laurent is also known by it’s acronym, YSL.

Castelbajac’s designs are full of Disney and Sesame street designs like the one seen on Katy. M.I.A has also been rocking their stuff post-baby, and we think Kayne would wear JC/DC if he wasn’t busy cancelling tours. Either way, this designer’s pop art creations are set for a big comeback.

Also at Paris’ fashion week were Chanel lovers Lily Allen and Rihanna. Chanel isn’t making a comeback since this French classic never went anywhere, but it’s set to be bigger than ever with Coco Before Chanel telling the story of the woman behind the brand.

A former consumer reporter has launched a new website called Lush Click. It’s cute. It doesn’t have an extraordinary amount of content since it just launched, but it has great potential. Mosey on over when you get the chance.

Lastly, Daily Candy has posted pictures of the Haunted Poe tour.

Happy Friday!

Muscely football player types have problems finding pants sometimes. Men’s pants are either euro tight or prison pants baggy, with no in between. A company that was featured on the Today Show this morning, Bonobos is trying to change all that. So, if there’s a boy in your life that can’t seem to find pants that fit correctly, head on over to their site. Their video explaining their mission is pretty amusing as well.

Oprah Magazine is on the lookout for ill-fitting garments as well. This slide show focuses on getting rid of that dreaded visible panty line. Ew.

Stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe has a daily newsletter that highlights her favorite picks. While many of the selections are high end – a recent newsletter featured an Anna Sui Dress for $650 – it also features a ‘Parallel Universe’ section that points it’s way to a cheaper but still cute version. In this aforementioned recent newsletter, an Anna Sui dress from the target collection for $45 was featured. You can sign up for updates on Rachel’s website, which also shares everything you need to know about Rachel, such as the fact that she’s sick after Fashion Week in NYC and what songs are on her iTunes playlist. Perhaps it’s this recent article in New York magazine that’s got Rachel feeling rundown and sick?

Headbands created by students at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising (LIM) were featured in a recent I Heart Daily Post. These young entrepenuers made and started wearing their creations. It wasn’t long until classmates were asking where they could get cute accessories like they had, and Stella Accessories was born.

NBC10’s website has some pictures of celebs that look alike, naked PETA ads, and the new school nameplate necklace. We’re fans – since these new school necklaces don’t feature your entire name, there won’t be any awkward moments where random people know your name. It’s happened to us. We swear.

Martes. Tuesday. Mardi. Dienstag.

Taylor Jacobson

I really like most of the posts that The Frisky sent in it’s newsletter yesterday, except for this one. It’s about dorm room cooking, and being able to ultilize your coffee pot to cook chicken? Gross. At Least whoever wrote about this nastiness agrees with me.

The posts that I heart from The Frisky are as follows…How to dress like Brad Goreski from The Rachel Zoe Project. I just wish they did a post on Taylor Jacobson and how she dresses. I guess it’s pretty easy to figure out – skinny jeans, flannel shirts lots of hair bleach, black nail polish and ray bans, but I’d like a post anyway.

Another post from The Frisky spreads the word that Jessica Simpson is planning on releasing a line of bras that cater to large breasted women.  I’m all for cute bras in big sizes, but it’s just funny that Jessica ultimately designs for herself. Most of her shoes have major heels on them, because she’s a shawty.

Yet another post from The Frisky clues you in as far as postage stamps in France.  They smell like chocolate! Mmm. There’s also another post on Shower Curtains. One even includes Horror Movie Bloody hands. Charming.

Every season, J. Crew’s creative director Jenna always picks out her faves that J. Crew carries. I tend to agree with Jenna - she picks out nice things. First there are these cute  t-strap heels as well as this gorgeous ring.

Lastly, I have developed a recent love for Bloomingdales. I’ve always been smitten with the high end anchor store, but recently they’ve got me head over heels. Their customer service is excellent.  They called my mom the other day to make sure that she liked the makeup that she purchased. This is after she recieved a hand written thank you from a manager, and I returned shoes that were all kinds of messed up. I might not be able to pick up this season’s Chanel bag, but I’m definatey stopping by for my more practical needs.

Cast System

Yesterday I was in love with basically everything that Glamour put up on it’s Twitter feed.  There was the write up on whether or not men are drawn to women that are hurt, as in wrapped in casts. It sort of makes sense, the trip to the ER does make you look like the ultimate damsel in distress. I guess it’s the same idea as when you carry a lot of things and sometimes men offer to help…but mostly just stare. Wait, maybe that’s just me?

Another thing that Glamour put up is the commentary from the Reporter that got to talk to Rachel Zoe for Glamour’s September issue.

Lastly, Glamour wants to know if Toddler Beauty Pageants make you upset. They make me really sad, actually. Apparently 96% of those that took the poll feel the same way as I write this entry. I’m glad that others see things that way, because the Beauty Pageants to me seem forced and more of what the mother wants to do than the little girl involved. When I’d kick and scream at ballet, my mom let me quit. Sometimes I do wish I was a prima ballerina, but I’m glad I was never forced to do anything like the Toddler Beauty Pageants.

Vera Wang and Oscar De La Renta will be making stops on Sesame Street in honor of Sesame Street’s 40th anniversary. A couple other designers found their way to Sesame Street, including Diane VonFurstenberg.  The pictures can be found in Harper’s Bazzar.

Lastly, the blog Clumps of Mascara is worth a look. It features videos on how to apply makeup as well as product reviews.
