Shoe Shopping Is Frustrating, but DSW Is Having a Sale!

Until recently, I nearly gave up on finding a pair of platform wedges. Every time I go into a shoe store I imagine that shoe designers have forgotten that many people  generally enjoy wearing heels and aren’t wearing them as a quick fix to rise five inches (although that’s a perfectly sound reason to wear them). Basically, I have a tall person bias in this situation and don’t foresee myself wearing a five-six inch heel casually. I could, but I’d much rather find a medium sized heel that isn’t, well, hideous, and finding such has grown to feel very similar to the fact that you could get a burger, fries and soda at McDonalds for under $4, but have to pay nearly $10 for a salad at Cosi. Fortunately, a heel around 4 inches is much more comfortable and wearable with the help of a platform.

I may be picky about shoes, but I don’t think I’m reaching here. So I spent an entire afternoon on the internet browsing around for a pair that meets certain requirements, or rather, avoids what I loathe in a shoe- that awful kitten heel, the bad variation of a cork/straw wedge, etc; along with an offensive price tag.

Then, the beacon of promise that is Google led me to DSW. How could I forget about DSW? It’s not like I don’t se their “Where’d you get your shoes?” commercial any less than five times throughout just one episode of Parks and Rec. Regardless, they are having a sale and there are some great options at very reasonable prices. So, if you feel my particular life-threatening shoe feels in this blog post, I hope this helps you find what you’re own shoe department is missing.

Versace for H&M is Coming…

The H&M store on Walnut Street will be blessed by the Versace for H&M collection starting at 8AM Saturday, November 19th, 2011.  Mark your calendars because this event is going to be HUGE!

According to the site, each group of 20 people in line will get a colored wristband (up to 280 people).  Shoppers will be allowed a 15 minute shopping window, and the order in which people are allowed to shop goes according to the color of their wristband.  Wristband holders are only allowed to shop the Versace for H&M women’s collection.  Anyone else who wants to shop the Versace for H&M men’s line, Versace for H&M home collection or regular H&M apparel can do so at their leisure.

Once you’re in H&M and drooling over Donatella’s designs, don’t get ahead of yourself.  Customers are allowed to purchase only two items, so plan wisely.   H&M’s posted the entire selection to its website so shoppers can pick out their favorite pieces for the budget.

I can’t wait to see everyone there, and stay tuned for a detailed review of the line.  Is it going to actually look like Versace, or just a cheap Chinatown knockoff?

Don’t forget:

  • Doors open at 8AM.
  • You’re only allowed two pieces.
  • The Walnut Street H&M is the one with the gold.
  • You only need a wristband if you’re shopping the women’s collection.
  • PW Style will be attending and documenting the chaos that will ensue.

Pam Strikes Again

bumpitsPam Anderson’s planned visits to the area don’t stop with Rite Aid. Next Saturday, she’ll be hosting the opening of the 360 Lounge and Nightclub at Parx Casino in Bensalem from 9pm – 2am. The nightclub includes slot machines, a stage, 3 108-inch LED TVs, a 100,000 watt sound system, signature cocktails and an LED-lit lava dance floor that pulsates to the music. If 360 turns out to be terrible, there’s a Chickie’s and Pete’s at Parx Casino that’s set to open soon. Nice.

Katy Perry is Glamour’s cover girl this month, and they’ve posted a slide show of pictures, as well as info on some great sales – up to 70% off! A designer with local roots, Tory Burch is also having a sale. Her stuff still isn’t cheap but you’ll have the chance to save quite a bit.

Nylon and O Magazine tried out products so ‘you don’t have to’ – Nylon says that Sephora’s Zit Zapper works, and Oprah’s staffers say that everything was going well when they tried Bumpits, until someone asked if they had a Lego in their hair.

Lastly, Giada De Laurentiis has a new line at Target, but this Coke Can Fridge also caught our eye.

Online Sale at Arcadia

Stop what you’re doing right now—c’mon it’s Friday afternoon!—and head to Arcadia’s website, where they’re having a one-day-only online sale. Use the code FRIDAY and receive 20% off your purchase.

We’ve got our eye on this hot little floral number by Bilingual. Originally priced at $218, the dress is on sale for $154. Throw in an extra 20% off and you can snag it for $123.20.

Happy Friday, indeed.
