Stuck in the city this weekend?
Yes, in the summer it can be agonizing to be stuck either working (blech) or without a ride to the shore (or worse, can’t enjoy the shore because it’s raining). Luckily, our city is host to an excellent array of charming and affordable boutiques, easily accessible and perfectly placed in between some of the best afternoon strolling routes. Which is to say one of my favorite Philly boutiques, Omoi, located at 1608 Pine Street, is having its fourth annual tent sale this weekend.
Pronounced “oh-moe-ee”, the store is named after a Japanese word that means “thoughts and feelings” (想い for all you Japanese readers). The shop, inspired by owner Liz Seiber’s stint in Osaka, carries all manner of unique and hard-to-find lifestyle goods, stationery, jewelry, and apparel, carefully arranged and tucked into every viable space within, much like similar independent lifestyle and small goods shops in Japan. Omoi throws its tent sale every summer to make space for upcoming fall arrivals, so if you’ve visited in the past few months and didn’t get that one thing you were on the fence about, it just might be waiting for you at the sale! For example:

Toy cameras with cult statuses.

Jewelry by Swallow, among other local and international artists.

Fine Japanese incense and awesome surfboard burners to go with.

While the inside of the store is packed full of beautiful things, the tent sale will be in the backyard.
