From APA President Sharfstein's letter in the WSJ: "This is the inevitable consequence of our reluctance to use caring, coercive approaches, such as assisted outpatient treatment."

I've experienced caring. I've experienced coercion. I doubt anyone has or can experience approaches that are both caring and coercive. Outside the mental health system would society tolerate treatment that is represented as simultaneously caring and coercive since one belies the other?
