Never say Nevis

Last year I was shocked to learn there was a country I’d never heard of. I think it was Kyrgystan but now I can’t even remember. At the time I was humiliated. How could my knowledge base—stocked by private schools and fancy immersion programs—be missing a detail like that ? A whole country!
Now I have to concede I’ve hardly ever heard of Nevis, and island linked with St. Kitts. But its approach to mental healthcare is evolving. Their Minister of Health Jean Harris yesterday delivered a workshop called “Mental Health: Its Impact on the Individual and Society”. She said that psychiatric services on Nevis now had their own budget. She also said the Lunacy Act for the Federation of St Kitts/Nevis was in the process of being repealed. With a name like that, it’s probably a good thing.
