R.I.P. Molly Ivins

Ivins, dead? It just seems wrong. She was such a hero to me when I lived in Texas. She was funny and to the point, and she cast politics’ toughest moments in an absurdist glow, which was very reassuring. For example, last year she wrote:
“The poor man who is currently our president has reached such a point of befuddlement that he thinks stem cell research is the same as taking human lives, but that 40,000 dead Iraqi civilians are progress toward democracy.”
A true Texan, she said what needed to be said, and she did so without flinching. Molly, we’ll miss you!

It does seem just wrong that she is suddenly dead. I saw one blog said “she has been a bright light in very dark times.” So true – and the times still seem none too bright.
