Jeez, who isn’t depressed? Everyone’s getting in on the act. TTWS reader Meg sent inthe link to a People magazine article about Anne Hathaway:

Anne Hathaway says she suffered from anxiety and depression in her teens, but that she rejected medication and instead worked through her troubles.

“I said to Mom the other day, ‘Do you remember that girl? She has now gone, gone to sleep. She has said her piece and she is gone,’ ” Hathaway, 24, tells Britain’s Tatler magazine. “But then I thought, ‘I so remember her, only she is no longer part of me.’ ”

She continues, “I am sorry she was hurting for so long. It’s all so negatively narcissistic to be so consumed with self.”

Meg writes, “I’m troubled by that last part,” and I am too. Depression isn’t about being self-absorbed. It’s a pain that no one brings on herself, and it’s no one’s fault.

Anne Hathaway isn’t “depressed.”

Depression is an imbalance in the neuro-chemicals of your brain.

She probably had social issues and the usual peer pressure combined with raging teen hormones – which is a chemical imbalance in its on right.

(sigh) anything for a Hollywood crying towel story.

Doesn’t the opinion of the person who went through the experience have any value at all? I looked at the People article, and didn’t see any reason in there to doubt the truthfulness of what Anne Hathaway said. Nothing in there seemed to indicate she hadn’t thought seriously about her evaluation of what she went through.

I’d think a person’s opinion about their own state of mind should be taken very seriously. From my own personal experience I think I can accurately say that a person can be depressed at one point in their lives and not depressed at later time – even if they aren’t taking any drug at the later time.

WRONG. Said chemical imbalance is ONE POSSIBLE CAUSE for clinical depression. Being depressed does not require you to be chemically imbalanced.

Now I don’t give a shit weather she was or not, I’m just pointing out this damn perpetuated chemical crap the pharmaceutical companies want people to believe to sell more expensive pills.

The drugs do not solve problems. They make you stop caring that you have problems.

drugs are not the devil. i see no reason to believe she wasnt depressed and if she didnt want to use medication thats her bussiness. maybe she didnt feel the need for it. it IS pretty stupid to take drugs if u dont really have the need for it. but many people do. and that doesnt make them less strong or have less willpower. drugs, when used in the correct situation, can help, and even save a life. of course it doesnt do the job by itself. therapy is vital for a full treatment, but using drugs doent mean ur weak.
