Song of the Day: “Happy”

This is also a True Confession, because it really is embarrassing: When I’m at the gym, I listen to the soundtrack to the movie Hitch. I haven’t seen the movie, but Will Smith is a Philly boy, so I love him. And the album really isn’t that bad. Yesterday, in the midst of a punishing set of bicep curls, I noticed for the first time that the song “Happy,” by Meleni Smith (pictured), was actually kind of inspiring.

The chorus goes:

What are you worrying about?
Got my dreams, got my life, got my love
Got my friends, got the sunshine above
Why am I making this hard on myself
When there’s so many beautiful reasons I have to be happy

And I thought, “Yeah, there’s something to that.” It was probably just the endorphins speaking, but give it a try. Maybe it’ll work for you, too. (I can’t find the mp3 right now, but I trust in your superior surfing skills. After all, you landed here.)

Annette Says:

Hitch is very lightweight, but a darling, darling movie. In the right mood, I think you’d enjoy it. The chemistry between Will Smith and Kevin James is too cute. Will is very, very funny – and he hadn’t won me over yet before this (not being from Philly).

I might have to check out the soundtrack!
