More hilarity

The SUGAR glider PEOPLE are still ANGRY!!!!!!! This is FROM MacKenzie:
Just like I thought, you are not a true reporter! You don’t even comment back on anything that any of us have said! REAL REPORTERS, read the comments left in reguards to one of their articles!
It’s true. All the great reporters–David Halberstam, Woodward and Bernstein, Bill Moyers, Christiane Amanpour (pictured), etc.–are very diligent in reading and responding to hate mail from sugar glider owners. Isn’t that their real responsibility? Screw geopolitics.
She also writes, and I am not fabricating any of this:
The mental health line is getting old! If you have it that bad then you should NOT have ANY kind of animal I don’t care what kind it is! You need to help yourself before you bring a helpless animal into it! That’s great that they are getting punished for your problems! THAT’S AWESOME!
You talk about how we should stop worrying so much about animals and worry more about our fellow humans, well much like what was said above, no one speaks for the animals, and if there is something wrong with a human, they have a voice, USE IT! Look at all of the places, charities, and housing for people in need, the homeless, the abused, and the neglected, and compare that to how many charities, housing, and places there are for animals! HMMMMM NOT TOO MUCH COMPARISON THERE HUH? Humans win by a LANDSLIDE!
You are rediculous … If you are fucked up so bad that you spend your day and make your money talking about how fucked up you are then you SERIOUSLY need to get whatever help it is that you NEED and leave all other living things out of it….to include your “FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS”!
Okay, I think that’s enough from those people. Let’s get back to what’s important:
AAN: Parkinson’s May be Prefaced by Depression
Chronic migraine puts teens at higher risk of suicide
Mental health care lax, vets say
Survey finds mentally ill kids face widespread stigma

Hi Liz,
I’m a frequent “lurker” here but I felt the need to comment and throw some cyber-support your way in light of the ridiculous amount of animosity being hurled your way. I do wonder if such posters are aware that they come across sounding like petulant 5-year-olds with their penchant for OVERUSE OF CAPS and lots of yelling and running about.
Anyway, kudos to you for handling it so well. I’d probably still be vacillating between indignant rage and tearful reevaluation of my assaulted sense of self. Neither of which are particularly healthy.
So… way to move on!
What vitriol that woman spews! I’ve been burdened with severe mental health issues for two decades now, and if not for my cat I would have slit my wrists years ago. Truly. His companionship and warmth have kept me going through many a bleak day –especially the deeply scary and suicidal ones. I can’t imagine what my life would be without him – his purring can be as relaxing as valium to me.
And discussing mental health issues NEVER “gets old” – especially when you struggle with them daily. and it is a struggle.

‘Tis as I always have said-the difference between my patients and everyone else is that the patients have a diagnosis.
As a “real reporter” since 1995, I can honestly say what I’m sure Liz already knows, reporters do not respond to reader’s comments. Sure it’s been known to happen, but you’d have a better chance of drowning in the Sahara Desert.
So who is “normal” and who is crazy, if this enraged sugar glider woman is representative of the majority population? Is she forgetting that the thing she is so enraged about is simply an instance of putting a baby animal back into the cage with its parents, and not an example of actual animal cruelty?
There seems to be a strong undertone of bigotry towards people labeled “mentally ill” in this woman’s comments. It makes me wonder what the response would’ve been to this type of thing by people who lost their pets to coyotes in middle class neighborhoods where I have lived. If on top of their grief over having lost their cat or dog they had some stranger castigating them for having left their pet outside unattended in a area near where many coyotes live, I think they would have gone ballistic. And no sane person would’ve faulted them for that.
Even people who are part of mainstream society have things like this happen to them. It doesn’t mean they deserve to be ripped into by some stranger over it. Most of them probably already felt terrible for having lost their pet in this way. To have someone come at them like this a year after their personal tragedy would’ve been like ripping the scab off of an old wound.
There is a great capacity for evil among people who think they are acting on behalf of some virtuous, holy cause. Who would’ve thought the proper care of sugar gliders could be one such cause?
Liz, I really do hope you mean “enough” as you say at the end of your post. By continuing to post these comments and rants from all the wackos that keep harrassing you, you are just energizing them and giving them more inspiration to keep being rude, insensitive, and hostile. You’ve proven 1000 times over that you are much classier and better than they, so do indeed walk away from this — for your own sake and to put an end to giving energy to cruel people.
BTW, I agree with Josh. Reporters don’t respond to comments. Isn’t that what the editorial page is for?
