I am so furious. From Furious Seasons:
Former Head Of Abusive NJ State Hospital Now In Charge Of Investigating Abuses At All NJ State Hospitals
Stories like these only seem to exist in government bureaucracy and especially in the corrupt state of New Jersey:
“The former chief executive at a New Jersey state psychiatric hospital troubled by escapes, a suicide and homicide has a different state job investigating those kinds of problems at all five state hospitals.
“This week, LaTanya Wood-El took charge of psychiatric hospital investigations for the state Human Services Department.
“She was removed last December from a job as chief executive officer at the Ancora Psychiatric Hospital, which officials said lacked routine procedures for tracking, reporting and preventing violence.
“State Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini, a Monmouth County Republican, told the Asbury Park Press that the new post is ‘outrageous.’
“But Human Services officials said she’s qualified for the job.”
Qualified by dint of being a complete fuck-up? How the hell does someone get pulled from a responsibility they clearly couldn’t handle at one hospital and then get put in charge of overseeing investigations of all the hospitals? This just boogles my pea brain. Hopefully, my NJ readers will write their local legislators.
As for Ancora, under Wood-El’s “leadership” patients were dying at the hospital and being abused. Why she wasn’t fired outright is beyond me.
I rarely agree with a Republican, but Mary Pat and I are thinking the same thing.

‘Outrageous’ indeed. I think they should not only reverse the hiring, but demote whoever made the hiring decision.
You’re lucky, Liz–you’re in Pennsylvania. I live IN New Jersey, and yes, it seems at times this kind of shit could happen only here. It’s grotesque. If you fuck up your job you get fired, except in public sector Jersey, where you get a promotion. Who are this lady’s special friends and what was she doing to get herself off the hook and into the back seat of the big limo? I’ve become sensitized to the nasty image of a woman trading sexual favors for preferment on the job, but this IS New Jersey and once you’re gotten past Carla Katz, everything is fair game.
This is your brain.
This is your brain on New Jersey politics.
Any questions?
Fox is now in charge of the hen house….
Back to the mental health dark ages we go.
At least she has extensive experience with abuses and knows what to look for.
New Jerseyans have been told so much for so long with so little of that constantly represented being found in reality. Where there was abuse, neglect and death at Ancora, New Jersey’s largest psychiatric hospital, we were told that Recovery had been implemented in all State psychiatric hospitals. Where approximately half of the over 2,000 persons in our State psychiatric hospitals remain there for want of housing in the community, we were told that the State hopes to address this longstanding issue in its entirety by …… 2014. Where we were told that the State was changing the culture at our psychiatric hospitals, we find that the individual who led Ancora is now in charge of investigating the same “incidents.”
Representations and reality are not necessarily one in the same. Does the State Division of Mental Health believe its representations to the extent that it can no longer appreciate reality?
