This cannot be addressed soon enough! Mental health issues are a plague in the African-American community, which already has enough devastating socio-economic problems.

On September 23rd, Troy Davis (http://danomacnamarrah.blogspot.com/2008/09/troy-davis-death-on-hold.html) was granted a stay of execution in the State of Georgia, two hours before they were going to electrocute him to death.

His is a case that has drawn pleas for clemency from the Pope, President Jimmy Carter, Rep. John Lewis and many more.

It's a sad fact that the overwhelming people on Death Row are poor, Southern African-Americans, many of whom are of diminished mental health and/or capacity.

This may not seem important to those of us who have not walked in these horrendous shoes. But this is only the tip of the ice-berg.

I know how hard it is to fight a mental illness, when I have been given so much. I cannot imagine how much more awful it could be, if I were not white, educated and able to draw on a net-work of people who are not marginalized.

Great post. It does a body good to read it.
