John Updike's conventional wisdom seems to have affected a lot of people -- I see little quotes of his all over

Wow, thanks for taking me back with the A&P story, that I read in community college. Now I'm adding some of his stuff that never got to read..His is a real loss to the world. RIP John Updike

Observance, experience, intuition, desire, the primary foods for journalism. What drove Updike, what drives Spikol, Joe Walsh, Waites, Danny Gatton? Can't say but it is a hardship we endure. Much love, Michael

I read A&P immediately after I heard he died. I always liked that short story. I need to catch up on his novels, though.

Such sad news, Liz.

Updike was such an amazing writer and especially essayist. He was also a local boy who heralded from Shillington (near Reading), PA.

A few years back, I re-read the "Rabbit" tetralogy for the first time since I was an undergrad and was still mesmerized by his language.
