I love linguistic studies, and always wanted to do one myself. I have a little bit of a Philly accent myself, as confirmed three times in the last year when people knew I was a native before I told them so. Airight, go jump in some wooder wicha.

Liz Spikol was born in Philadelphia sometime in the 20th century. i, for one, hate philly accents. they sound disgusting. i forbid myself to become that acclamated where i can’t pronounce words correctly. it’s in the water i tell ya…it’s like everyone’s got too much testosterone in their system!

my funniest story from my philly days: in the tense days of the near meltdown at the Three Mile Island nuclear plant, I was 20 years old and hawking a radical newspaper in front of Reading Terminal. The headline was about an antinuclear demo in Europe with a big banner: WE ALL LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA. An older lady stopped, studied it briefly, and then patted my hand. “No, hon,” she said, “I live in Jersey.” I wish I could reproduce the voice… Nauw Hohn, I can’t dew it!
