Daughter of Anne Sexton Writes About Familial Suicidal Urges

Thanks so much to Susan for sending me a link to this wonderful piece by Linda Gray Sexton, Anne Sexton’s daughter. Anne was a wonderful poet who killed herself in 1974. Here are some films of her at home.
Her daughter, who has also been her editor, felt a connection to Nicholas Hughes, Sylvia Plath’s son who recently killed himself. That’s what she’s pondering in her NYT essay. Her piece is lovely, and sad.
Below is a recording of Plath reading her poem about her son, Nick, who is missed not only by those who knew him, but by those — like Sexton — who did not.
