Power Corrupts, Absofuckinglutely

May 13 2009 | Comments 6

Employees at a state school in Corpus Christi, Texas, forced mentally disabled residents to spar in late-night fight clubs, telling them if they didn’t, they’d be beaten or forced to go to prison. Below is a news report. WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT.

This is the sickest thing I’ve seen in a long time. As someone on ABC News said, I think, the employees are behaving like Michael Vicks with his pit bulls — only these are human beings. It’ll be interesting to see if this incident causes as much furor as the Vick story did. Granted, there’s no celebrity involved, but you know how these things go.

ABC News has a good report on this, and you can link to a Nightline report on it as well.

Disgusting. I guess being of a “thug” or “gangsta” mentality is a prerequisite of this “school’s” job requirement. Sorry for the stereo-typing. Just calling it like I see it. My god, the terror those patients must have felt.

glad to see you found a link/story. i don’t know what, but something needs to be done to make sure patient safety is a #1 priority at these places.

I didn’t watch the video- I think I can pretty much imagine the degrading, disgusting treatment these people were subjected to by these thugs.

I’m not a violent man- at all- but I wouldn’t complain too bitterly if someone were to beat those jackasses with a rubber hose for an hour or two. Then, of course, jail. This has effectively wrecked the day. So sad.

How can human beings be so awful to those in need…taking advantage of and preying upon the disabled? God, mans inhumanity to man is horrific. I have to keep reminding myself so as not to become to depressed: humans CAN be good, humans CAN be good….

Thank you for being an advocate for those that are in a vulnerable condition. Hiring practices for staff members serving people in hospitals should be regulated, improved and monitored. I’m glad they got caught. When no one is watching or listening plenty of abuse can prevail.

Disturbing. How vulnerable some in society are to predators like these state employees.
