Song of the Day / R.I.P. Lucksmiths
One of my all-time favorite bands is breaking up. The Lucksmiths’ songs never fail to bring a smile to my face.

This Is How I Know I’ve Gotten Old
When I was growing up, my big male crush was Richard Gere. Just watch the first couple minutes of this truly terrible movie, and you might see why:
Now, I see this photo of Gere:

And I realize: Years have gone by. Poo.

Nightmares Do Come True
Pretty much every night I have a dream that something horrible has happened to Hannah (pictured above), my sweet Chihuahua. Turns out, I have reason to worry. From ABC News:
Bystanders at a Detroit-area flea market were stunned this weekend when high winds from a passing storm picked up a couple’s Chihuahua puppy and blew her out of sight.
After two days of searching and consulting with a pet psychic, Tinkerbell was found almost a mile away in the woods dirty but unharmed. …
“We were shocked when we found her,” Dorothy Utley, 72, told The Detroit News. “You don’t know how happy we were. We love her so much.”
It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s a … Flying Chihuahua?

Cartoon-a-Thon
In honor of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, Chato B. Stewart — who runs the blog Mental Health Humor and Cartoons (which really could be the Funny or Offensive motherlode, if you think about it) — is starting his second annual Cartoon-a-Thon. He’ll try to draw one cartoon for each day of the month to bring awareness and rasie funds. Click here to learn more.

I Can’t Believe How Many Charleston Chews I’ve Eaten
Okay, you guys, seriously: I am so utterly unattractive in this video, it’s appalling. Rolls of fat come through, even beneath my sweater. My face and head look small on top of the bloated body. The profile shot? Just kill me. Yet Joel Mathis, PW’s online editor, did such a lovely edit, I was unable to tell him not to post it. I didn’t want to be the kind of person who’s vain. But, like, I am.
Still … books! Yay!

Oh No! R.I.P. Harry Kalas
The other guy is going nuts, but Kalas is always the gentleman. I love that little smile, though.

I No Longer Remember How to Make a Video
But I tried. I keep getting flack from my subscribers for being missing in action. So here’s the latest.

Animal Hoarder Speaks
You often see news stories about the poor wittle kitties who are kept in horrible conditions by some crazy person, but rarely are those people actually given the dignity of an interview. The public cares more about the cats than they do about the human being, who is, BTW, also living in those horrific conditions.
Hoarders have a serious mental disorder, but they lack a voice. KSTP-TV in Minneapolis-St. Paul interviewed two hoarders after they came out of court.

Fixations
Right now I’m perseverating on the work of David Maialetti, staff photographer for the Daily News. I wonder, when everyone talks about the DN folding, what will happen to talented people like Maialetti.
If you’re looking for something to do, check out Maialetti’s blog and the audio slideshows on the right-hand nav. They’re awesome. I aspire to his skill, also in evidence on Philly.com’s slideshow of opening night for the Phillies.
I look at stuff like this to calm me down when I’m stressed. The world is large and beautiful, I say to myself, and full of possibility. No one thing should get me down.
